What Is The Ultimate Purpose For Tongues?

Our church’s lead pastor made a significant comment.

He explained what the name of God as Jehovah means.

God as Jehovah, is the one who not only brings things into existence, but makes Himself responsible to do so.

He is not only the architect of existence but has a strong desire to manifest these things to us.

I can’t bring anything into existence, not even a hair on my head, but God can.

Having said this, I can confidently say I am in real need of seeing things which I have prayed for years, finally come to pass.

What about you?

It seems like life is one big pot full of conglomerate  things which I believe for, and yet half of them don’t seem to ever manifest.

I’ve thought that I am waiting for God, when many times He waits for me.

Not that some things, in God’s timing,  don’t take a long time to come to pass, because they do.

Mt 23:34  Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute (diokoo) them from city to city:

Php 3:12  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after (diokoo) if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Php 3:14  I press (diokoo) toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

But I believe that there are things that I passively wait on the Lord for, that if I enthusiastically persecuted them by prayer, they would quickly come to pass.

Yes, there is a righteous and holy persecution of the things which God wants to give to us.

I forget that God is the sole agent of creation and existence, and as its agent, is more anxious in bringing them to pass than what I think.

He anxious to create, when I think that He wants me to wait.

I must learn to coöperate with Him in this process.

1Co 3:9  For we are laborers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry; ye are God’s building.

Though God is Almighty, many a time He will limit Himself to act in accordance to the prayers of His people.

Having said this, I believe that the greatest prayer which allows us into this creative and birthing process is praying in tongues in association with what God wants to give to us.

I am not talking about the gift of tongues that we hear in a charismatic service.

I am talking about getting down to business with The Almighty in the things that you are really desirous to get from Him.

These are private tongues between you and God.

This is the labor of prayer through tongues.

Yes, it’s labor.

Like, every good thing in life, there is a price to pay to get it, and it usually takes labor.

This type of prayer  allows us to break into that realm where our faith intersects God’s will, sticks its finger in the socket of God’s electricity, and bang, suddenly He births.

As I said, many times God is waiting on us, when we think that we wait on Him.

He waits on us to birth and to give, but we do the labor by praying in tongues.

It’s there, that it’s not us who pray but the Spirit of God intercedes according to His wish to create and to give.

Yes, praying in tongues is arduous, time-consuming, and at numerous times boring.

Yet, every time that I have done this, much of what I’ve spent months or years waiting for, in weeks and even days, I get.

I’ve heard of people who pray in tongues one hour a day and begin to get.

Before God launched  us into our journey of faith in the 90’s, I prayed in tongues for three days, hours every day.

At the end, God gave me a spectacular picture about His promise for finances and provision that has carried us through  sixteen years of family missions.

It surely beats spending months and years assiduously waiting!

It will be one of the more challenging things you will ever do, but the thrill of finally seeing things become your realities, is so worth it!
