How I Met St. Peters Angel?

Acts 12:7  And behold, an angel of the Lord stood there, and a light shined in the prison room; and striking the side of Peter, he roused him saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell away from his hands.

8  And the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and put on your sandals”; and he did so. And he said to him, “Put on your cloak and follow me.”

9  And going out, he was following him, and did not know that the thing taking place by the angel was true, but he was thinking that he was seeing a vision.

10  And going though the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate which leads into the city, which was opened to them of its own accord; and going out, they went forward one street, and immediately the angel withdrew from him.

11  And Peter, having come to himself, said, “Now I know truly that the Lord has sent forth His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jews.”

I’d  visit a hang out where  men of a city converged to drink and pass the night.

This place had been there forever.

You’d drive by and see men and women drunk, others reveling, some even stoned.

It had been my practice to visit the hangout, befriend the men and share the gospel in a spontaneous and non-threatening fashion.

I had been nicknamed “the preacher,”

One night though, things were very different. Some of the men had sniffed cocaine, were high as kites and were very confrontational.

As I mingled, one charged me with mal treating my children.

“I walked past the preacher’s home today and heard one of his kid’s screaming”, he snapped in a heated way.

I knew what had happened. My kids were small in those days. One of my daughters was in the habit of screaming bloody murder when she did not get her way.

That morning, my wife Mary, had washed her hair and wanted to brush out the knots.

Mary had not begun the brushing but my daughter was screaming in its anticipation.

This guy had walked past my house when this was happening.

“The preacher was beating his kid!” he rejoined, in a loud voice.

Another coked out dude joined the fray.  “Yeah, preacher, that’s really bad, what did you do to your kid?”

He began pushing me.

I expounded on what had occurred to the fifteen men that were there. None of them said a word. Many of them I knew personally. No one came to my defense.

The loud mouthed and confrontational ones continued inflaming the tempers of the others. “Yeah, we gotta punish the preacher for what he does to his kids!”

One continued to push me around. The others sat in silence, as if their tongues had been cut out.  I was dumb founded and frightened.

The ring leader retorted, “Let’s hang the preacher!”

With that he found a rope and began to make a noose for my lynching. The other one kept on pushing me, while several more hurled accusations.

I appealed to the men who knew me the best, “You’ve known me for years! You see me with my children!”

Nothing. The silence was deafening.

Meanwhile the agitator in a corner gleefully continued constructing the noose.

Suddenly, out of nowhere a girl, a teen ager, appeared.  She was a native of the city.

“Come and follow me”.

She led me past the crowd of the men. Even my agitators were speechless.

“Get in your car and get out here.”

Then she departed from me.

And so I did. I never visited this haunt again, needless to say.

This had been Peter’s angel sent to me.

It’s tragically comical that it took a woman, probably the only one in that joint to rescue me. The men who had been friends were cowardly and spineless.

In our global travels, it’s mostly the women who have supported our ministry, while the men have been heartbreakingly absent.

This is one reason I support women in the ministry. It is troublesome that men who argue against their inclusion in the pulpit are sedentary in the activities of their local congregations.

This story ends on a good note, as with all that God does.

Months later, I saw my noose maker. I said hello, extended my hand and shook his. He stared at me in disbelief, frozen in time, God’s conviction raining on him. Never uttering a word, he walked away. I’ve prayed for him on occasions. I knew he lived in pain.

To this day, I’ve not been able to find my angel to thank her. Maybe in heaven I’ll find out that she was St. Peter’s angel.

How To Minister Like Jesus?

John 8:28  Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things

•  Holy Spirit ministry to be identical, can never initiate from us.

• Jesus said, “I do nothing of my independent and selfish self. As the Father has taught me, I prophetically speak (or also minister).”

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

• The Holy Spirit will guide as a teacher; show the way and instruct you into all truth.  More accurately: Into every type of truth that pertains to us.

  • Therefore, don’t freak out. If you are doing the best to follow Jesus, He won’t let you go wrong. We’ve travelled the world with four kids in twenty years and God has never let us err.

• But whatsoever he shall hear; as many things that He will hear (NO MORE AND NO LESS), all these He will declare to you.

• And he will shew you things to come. The prophetically coming things the Spirit will rehearse and makes known to us. (JUST AS HE HEARD THEM)

  • God is not stingy with you. God is lavish, so relax and obey the Spirit.

John 5:17  But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto ( My Father never ceases working in the Spirit) and I work.(and I work externally, using exactly the same procedures and in exactly the same manner in which I see instinctively the Father working within me.)

• Worketh:  is defined in exactly the same way that a company strives to be successful in producing the services for which it is in business for.

• Hitherto: Until now. My Father has been continually at work, producing the services that pertain to the business of the kingdom of God in an unbroken flow, right through all of your Sabbaths; and even now as we speak, He works.

• And I work:  I, in like manner to the Father.

This is a tremendously important point of instruction for ministers who desire to flow in the Spirit.

• Jesus tells us that we are to WORK OUT into the world, what the Father WORKS INTO us with exactly the same intentions, intensity, and procedures used by the Father.

  • Our ministry must be a carbon copy of the Father’s ministry in us.
  • What we see the Spirit do inside us, we do our best to minister it out. Errors come when we try to add or take away from what God showed us because of the fear of man.

John 5:19Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth (To habitually glance at what the Father does in the Spirit.  This is not discernment with understanding) the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. (Greek word “homos”)

• Glancing in the Spirit to what the Father does, gives us that momentary intuitive knowledge, which, is enough for us to step out in faith and do with identicalness what we have seen intuitively in our spirits.

  • This is the key to ministry in the Spirit.
    • Our right to do so is based on the fact that we have an equal inner spiritual nature to that of the Father, giving us the same identity with Him in our outward actions.
    • We are responsible to work with identicalness to what we see on the Spirit.  This is what the term “homos” means.

John 5:20  For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

• We have the ability to minister with God’s identicalness based on the different aspects of God’s anointing within us.

• For the Father is fond of the Son and shows Him all things that He does in a way that can be proven and for proof, and greater than these works will he show you with the goal in His mind that you may wonder.

  • And He is fond of you in the same way.

•We must know that continually, at all moments, the Father is exhibiting within us all that He does in way that we can understand and confirm what he says, and then manifest it outwardly as proof into the world.

  • Thus, we have nothing to fear. Just step out and enjoy Holy Spirit ministry!

A Planet Called Deception

Matt 24: 4   And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

Look continually to yourself that nobody will “planetize” you.

The word “deceive” in the Greek. It is the word “planet”.

In Greek mythology, planets were called wanderers or the wandering ones.

Thus, this suggests the word deception. A person whom is being deceived aimlessly wanders away from the truth. The word planet is also used for “error”.

In the United Sates we see the prince of the authority of the air using technology to “planetize” people.

Eph 2:2(EB)  In which at one time ye walked, according to the age of the world, according to the prince of the authority of the air, of the spirit that now energiseth in the sons of disobedience,

Technology is an awesome tool which greatly benefits humanity and the work of the kingdom of God. The devil uses technology in the lives of those whom are not paying attention to their walks with God to cause them to planetize or wonder from the truth of the Word of God. Whereas Africa gets hit by a demon of poverty, the USA is getting wacked by a demon of distraction.

I am amazed at how many Americans the devil has planetized to cause them to look down at their technological gadgets.

When you get on an airplane to go to east Africa, you will find many looking down as well.  They, however, are looking down at their Bibles!

Matt 24:5  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

“Many for will be coming upon the name of me, saying I am the anointed and will planetize many.”

The word “deceive” in verse 5 is in the active voice. This means that deceivers will actively planetize unassuming people who are not paying attention to themselves and their relationships with God.

2 Thess 2:7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

“For the mystery of lawlessness, or what is void of all law, is now energizing, until the one who has the power to detain and keep it in check even at present, is from the midst becoming.”

A mystery is something that is hidden or that lives in the darkness of secrecy. A mystery must be revealed, since it cannot be accessed through our physical senses.  A mystery once totally veiled is now progressively revealed.

At the moment that Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the mystery of iniquity kicked in. Men in those days lived to be over 900 years of age. The progressive revelation of the mystery of iniquity has eaten up into the lifespan of mankind throughout the centuries.

8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy (non effectual) with the brightness of his coming:

And then will the Unlawed one will be uncovered whom the Lord will consume with the spirit of his mouth and will render useless and nonoperational with the epiphany of His presence.

This verse obviously talks about the Antichrist. The prevalent thing to notice here is that the Anti-Christ a man whom is void of all law, obviously a figure who thrives on anarchy, will be uncovered at a set season.

It does not take much to see the mystery of lawlessness, or better said anarchy, at work than in those who today contest that the legitimacy of the constitution is not prevalent or foundational to our country.

The voiding of the constitution if it were to succeed will bring anarchy.

Wherever the manifestation of Christ is, there is His work of making non effectual all that is sin.

9  Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

“Whose presence is in accordance to the energizing of Satan with every ability, signs and wonders found in what is pseudo.”

The word for “lying” in the Greek is pseudo. Something pseudo is a falsehood, a sham, something spurious.  What is pseudo, does not have to be entirely false. It just needs to contain enough half-truths to cause people to planetize from the truth.

10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

“And with every seduction, guile, and deceitfulness of doing what is not right in the eyes of God.”

Every disobedience towards God brings guile and deception as it seduces you.  This mystery of anarchy is energized in all of those that without an agape or unconditional love for the Word of God do not heartedly welcome it into their lives. The Word of God must be loved and welcomed, there is no other way!

11  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

“And through this act of unwelcoming His Word, God sends them “ an energy of planetizing” for the purpose of them believing what is pseudo.”

This type of energizing is an activation that will cause people to wonder aimlessly into error for the express purpose of believing what is false.

The Legacy of Richard Kaufman

“Richard Kaufman who grew up in the 1970s during the “dark ages” of disability awareness. He was placed in special education classes at the start of elementary school. Determined to prove others wrong, he graduated from high school in 1985 and earned his Associate of Art degree in 1999. In 2009, he began his journey at FIU. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in mental health counseling and wants to dedicate his career to helping others. On Monday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. Kaufman will receive a bachelor’s degree in sociology/anthropology with a minor in religious studies.”  Florida International University

We are so proud of our friend Richard Kaufman. Richard has overcome a life of tremendous obstacles to graduate yesterday with a BS from Florida International University ( FIU)

The president of FIU recognized two people amongst the hundreds present for a life of special achievement while at FIU. One was Pastor Joseph Holbrook. The other one was Richard Kaufman. For ten minutes, he had Richard stand up while eloquently relaying to the thousands present his special achievements.

We who were part of Richard’s party were given VIP seating in the very front row. The head of the graduation event met with us personally to praise Richard’s achievements. One of Richard’s professors requested to meet with him after the commencement exercises.

Truly an amazing event for a deserving man, Richard Kaufman! GO RICHARD!

Invite Jose and Mary to speak or minister at your group or church. Blessings!

“My Journey to Africa” by Sarah G. Alvarez

This entry in as essay written by my daughter Sarah Alvarez as part of a submission to one of her college classes.

In 2005, my parents uprooted my family to Kenya, Africa. Living in a third world country proved to be an experience that changed my life forever. At the time, I did not realize how much of a significant part of my journey it would become, shaping me into the woman that I am today.

Needless to say, as you can imagine, living in a third world country was a humbling experience. From the moment you step off the airplane you are taken back by the poverty that the people of Kenya live in. Kids roam the streets without shoes, families live in small shacks, and clean water is a luxury. On a day-to-day basis, food is no guarantee. Health is an afterthought, and survival is the priority. Many people watch the news and hear the stories of a third world country from their own home, and have the comfort of being able to change the channel and forget about it all. However, it is another thing to immerse yourself in that environment and face the true reality of what it is to walk in the shoes of the less fortunate in Kenya. People cleanse themselves with unsanitized water contaminated with bugs and bacteria. It is a rare luxury to have a shower, and an even rarer luxury to take a hot shower. The toilets consist of a deep hole in the dirt, and if you asked a local from Kitengela if they had ever heard of a refrigerator, their answer would most likely be no. Even living there, I cannot say that I fully endured the poverty that so many around me did, but in my year and a half in Kenya I experienced just a small dose of what life is and always will be for millions of people.

Initially, moving to Kenya, I don’t think that any of us anticipated it to be as difficult as it was.  Leaving the United States with just your parents, three siblings, two Chihuahua’s , and just a few bags is no easy task. We were leaving a whole life behind us. A life that we were all so accustomed to knowing. A life where we had our friends, family, and even small comforts that I soon learned to never take for granted. As time passed, we adjusted bit by bit through the culture shock, but I would be lying if I said that there weren’t any days where I stayed in my bed crying. I was home sick. I longed to see familiar faces, and to go about with my normal routine which I had in America. I wanted to eat the food that I usually ate, and watch the television that I usually watched. Adjustment was the most difficult task of them all, and I don’t think that I would have been able to do it without my family’s love and support. We helped each other through it all. Whether that being my hilarious brother trying to go out of his way to make his sisters laugh instead of cry, or even just being homesick together, it helped tremendously.

Finally, the impacting realization that I took away from this experience, was that I came to see how grateful I am to be an American. So many of us take for granted the little things that I have already described. Whether that is food, clean water, shelter, or other basic needs. But more so, we take for granted the very country we live in. We often do not realize that compared to so many others out there, we have it amazingly well. We need to be proud of where we have come from, and most of all, be thankful for everything we have been blessed with.

All in all, the experience of living in a third world country shaped me into who I am today for a number of reasons. First, my year and a half in Kenya humbled me greatly.  It reminded me more than ever how important my family is to me. Also, it has taught me to never take for granted being an American, our rights and the freedom that so many others would do anything for. It is important to give thanks every day for what we have, big and small. There is so much to be grateful for in the world, whether that is family, health, or maybe even just hot water and food. But it is our job to never, even for one second, take what we have in life for granted.

Metamorphosis

The supreme profession is that of becoming one with the Lord Jesus. This union or oneness with God takes place by the process of transformation.  The transformation is that of “metamorphosis” or the same progression that takes place when a butterfly emerges from a caterpillar, which emerged from a cocoon.

2 Corinthians 3:18  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Greek: But we all with our face uncovered (Though our faces have been uncovered at our conversion.

A believer that has an “open” face is who is yielded to the Lord and gladly obeys Him.  They welcome all that God has for them; their faces are opened to His dealings.

The person who has a “closed face” is one who secretly does not receive another, and is in opposition or disagreement with that other, judging them in their heart.

The glory of the Lord beholding as in a mirror (Quite the opposite to Moses who did not have a spiritual mirror to capture and behold the glory of the Lord that would thoroughly transform him!

The Old Covenant was transient and not permanent as the New Covenant inaugurated in the blood of Jesus Christ was.

Thus Moses covered his face, which had the passing glory of God on it. Christ is our spiritual mirror allowing us permanently capture and behold the glory of God that will thoroughly transform us, as long as our faces remain opened towards Him.

To that very same image which Jesus has are we being metamorphosed out of glory and into (the next level) glory, even as from the Spirit of the Lord.

The transformation that God calls us to is the progressive and complete extinction of our carnal self-life which has been our image, to be replaced by, as it is transformed into, the image of Christ,  the self- life of God.

The person who is conformed to the image of Christ has become a participant of the very life of God, and a channel for God to flow into the world.

Romans 8:29  For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed( Greek: To assume the same form) to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Rom 6:6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

That the body of sin might be destroyed.

That the body which is made up of sin (Our self-life) might break down and become useless and nonfunctional.

That henceforth we should not serve sin.   In the breaking down and the non-functioning of the carnal self-life we become released from the slavery or dominance of sin.

God has made every one to be an individual.

Every one of us has been created with a unique self-life that makes you, you, and me, me.  As people, we have been created into the image of God.  Because the image of God is the self-life of God, we were all created as individuals to participate in God’s life.

Our self-life rooted and one with God’s self-life, is for us to take part to very extent that God does Himself in the liberty, wholeness, love, joy, and wisdom that God enjoys, and makes Him God.

When sin came into the world our self-life was thoroughly infected by it. The first assault on humanity by sin was to sever our self-life from that of God, because God cannot entertain sin. The life, which Adam and Eve had lived in utter dependency rooted in God’s self-life, was in one instance cut off.  Man and woman became alienated from the life of God.

Ephesians 4:18  Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

Greek:  On account of the hardness of their hearts (towards God) there is a void of knowledge in them which has permanently separated them from intimacy and fellowship with the Lord and has permanently darkened their thoughts that concern God.

Man and woman, now live out of a self-life which is laden with uncontrolled lusts, devastating bondages, paralyzing fears and the deception.

As God lives out of His self-life, every individual life’s is the product of the self-life that defines them.

Because our self-lives have been corrupted by sin, our daily lives receive a never-ending flow of rejection, fear, lusts, and bondage from the root system of the self.

This is why people whom have not become born again are slaves to sin.

Romans 6:20  For when ye were the servants ( Slaves) of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

The purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ was to restore people to the exact condition which Adam and Eve had before the fall. When we are conformed to the image of Christ we are transformed to live out of God’s self-life once again.

To be fully conformed to the image of God we must love nothing else than God Himself and love only the things which God wills for us to love.  Our lives must devote to minister solely to God and wish with the strongest of love to become one with Him. Any ministry that we do is the sole outcome of our ministry to Jesus and what the Lord speaks to us out of those times with Him.

We must forget all things in this life that do not pertain to our union with the Lord and those things, which He wants to love through us.

The smallest love that we entertain outside of loving God and wanting to die completely to self to become one with Him, will impede our complete transformation into His image.  This is because any love that we harbor outside of God is rooted in our corrupt self-life.  Our self-life has no other sentence placed upon it than to die.

Any other love that we hold on outside of loving God and working out what He loves, feeds our self-life and prevents it from dying, keeping us in bondage.

Romans 7:18  For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

Union with God will never be attained by our knowledge of God.  It is impossible to know God through our mental or spiritual understanding of the scriptures. Only through the simple love of God that I have described above can we become one with the Lord and know and understand Him as we take part in His very life and bear witness to it.

If we place our ministry, and our church agendas before our ministry to the Lord and our simple love to be conformed into His image, we feed our carnal self-life and will remain in bondage no matter how noble our intentions.

Our apostleship and ministry is simply the fruit of our union with the Lord, not the other way around.

 Romans 12:2  And <2532> be not <3361> conformed <4964> ) to this <5129>  world <165>: but <235> be ye transformed <3339> ) by the renewing <342> of your <5216> mind  <3563>, that <1519> ye <5209> may prove <1381>) what <5101> is that good <18>, and <2532> acceptable <2101>, and <2532> perfect <5046>, will <2307> of God <2316>

If you notice the numbers within the brackets< >, these are the numbers found in your Strong’s concordance that help you expound on the Greek word translations.  I encourage you to use them.

“Transform” or # 3339 is our word “metamorphosis”.

Remember the example of the lowly caterpillar being transformed into the beautiful butterfly.  Metamorphosis?  What about the tadpole being transformed into a frog?  Total and radical change!  Guess what?  That is exactly what the Lord desires out of our lives.

The death of ourselves on the cross and the resurrection life of our Lord within us should be so extraordinary, that we all become lovely and free butterflies for His glory.

Unrecognizable as a tadpole is from a frog because Jesus lives so big in us, should find us with no former remembrance of our “tadpolish” existence.  At least that should be our goal.

 Matthew 17:2  And <2532> was transfigured <3339>) before <1715> them <846>: and  <2532> his <846> face <4383> did shine <2989> as <5613> the sun <2246>, and <1161> his <846> raiment <2440> was <1096> white <3022> as <5613> the light <5457

The transfiguration of the Lord Jesus before the apostles?  Look at the Strong’s number. We see the same # 3339.  In other words, Jesus was “metamorphosed” before his disciples.  This type of spiritual transfiguration should be ours.  Then all men will be drawn unto Jesus.  Look at the next instance of metamorphosis.

2 Corinthians 3:18  But <1161> we <2249> all <3956>, with open <343>) face <4383> beholding as in a glass <2734>  the glory <1391> of the Lord <2962>, are changed <3339> into the same <846> image <1504> from <575> glory <1391> to <1519> glory <1391>, even as <2509> by <575> the Spirit <4151> of the Lord <2962>.

The “open face” in this passage defines the believer that is totally yielded and surrendered to the Lord. Only then is his face totally open and full of light, with no lurking sin or disobedience that will cause him to hide or close his face in shame or guilt to Jesus.

Let me direct your attention back please to our first scripture, Roman 12:2.  The word “conformed”(#4964) is defined as our word “schematic or drawing”.

Metamorphosis produces an inward change, while a drawing changes only the outward picture.  Paul then admonishes us, not to follow the world that will change only the outward form of our lives and that adversely, without producing a beneficial and permanent inward change.  On the other hand a life centered on God’s word will metamorphosise us from the inside out.

2 Corinthians 11:13  For <1063> such <5108> are false apostles <5570>, deceitful <1386> workers <2040> , transforming themselves <3345> <1519> the apostles <652> of Christ <5547>

 2 Corinthians 11:14  And <2532> no <3756> marvel <2298>; for <1063> Satan <4567> himself <846> is transformed <3345> into <1519> an angel <32> of light <5457>.

Look at the two previous highlighted scriptures with # 3345.  This Greek word is another off shoot of the word “schematic or drawing”.  We can see the perils of only being changed superficially.  The first scripture describes “wolves in sheep clothing” while the second one shows us one of Satan’s ploys.  In both instances there is no true inward change, but only the superficial alteration of something that eventually deceives.

Matthew 10:39  He that findeth <2147> (5631) his <846> life <5590> shall lose <622>   it <846>: and <2532> he that loseth <622> ) his <846> life <5590> for my <1700> sake <1752>  shall find <2147>  it <846>.

Look at the phrase “loseth his life”.  Simply defined, it means total destruction, laid to ruin, waste, and annihilation. Wow!!

Matthew 16:24  Then <5119> said <2036>  Jesus <2424> unto his <846> disciples <3101>, If any <1536> man will <2309>  come <2064> (5629) after <3694> me <3450>, let him deny  <533> himself <1438>, and <2532> take up <142> (5657) his <846> cross <4716>, and <2532>  follow <190> me <3427>.

“Denying ourselves,” tells us that we must lose sight of ourselves, and every one of our interests that do not glorify Jesus.   Only then can we be his disciples!

How few disciples are there really are according to Jesus’ stringent definition.  Scary!
