What Steve Jobs Taught Me

Steve Jobs once said that if this was your last day on earth what would you be doing to benefit humanity ? Now, live every day like that.

God Is The God of the Grassroots

I had opportunity to go to a night of worship at my church, Doral Vineyard, yesterday.

Apart from the remarkable time of two hours of worshiped led mostly by young people, these following were my observations.

The majority of those in attendance were young people. I am talking about the twenty-five and under group.

The minority of older people, whom I know, are all young in heart.

There is no doubt that God is working restoration and revival, in the young, and in the old, whose hearts are fresh and young towards Him.

The church can no longer neglect the sweeping movement of God with young people and simply assign them to their youth groups, isolating them from so-called “adults.” This latter is part of the old wine skins which God is disposing of.

Secondly, many who were in attendance last night, I have never met.

I discovered that these people attend different churches.

This is the same grassroots movement which we witness in NY.

God is gathering “on fire” people from different churches, who step out of their demarcated church walls for corporately worshiping and seeking the Lord and then the lost.

These people are not leaving their churches, but they are departing from the routines of their specified church lives to come together for God’s greater purposes. The days of this is my church, and this is your church, if it keeps the body isolated, are over.

This grassroots movement God is causing to pop up everywhere.

Those who have ears to hear, let them do so.

Finally, my wife Mary had an apostolic word of God’s strategy for South Florida.

One of the difficulties of evangelizing Miami Dade County is that she is “the city of high walls.”

God gave me this word 17 years ago. It has proven so true.

NYC is easier to evangelize than Miami.

Many New Yorkers do not drive and are forced to get to know each other over time, in the streets.

But Miamians live in their ac homes and ac cars.

You never see them on the streets, because of humidity and heat.

They go from townhouse, to car, to job, to Starbucks, to job, to car, and back to their townhouse.

Many come from South America, either fleeing oppression, or trying to make money.

If people are not in the streets, evangelizing becomes difficult.

This is the problem of Miami.

Once again I say, that NYC is easier to evangelize than Miami.

But my wife’s word is timely and strategic.

The Lord showed her a grid of lights all over South Florida. These grids represent grass root groups like the one we had yesterday. Folks from different churches who are coming together for the express purpose of loving the Lord and seeking His face.

Wherever these groups were coming together on the grid of S Florida, God was digging wells. There came a time when these wells overflowed.

In a flood, everything that is standing is washed away, and every high wall that people in Miami have built to protect themselves, will be washed away.

I find this to be one of the most important words of God’s strategy ever given to Florida, for it involves, not one man, or one church, but the body of Christ, which is precisely what God is doing, globally.

Let us catch God’s fast train into revival land, and not be left at the train stations of our isolated church ghetto routines.

Why Should You Leave Club Golgotha?

Mt 27:33  And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

Mr 15:22  And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

Joh 19:17  And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

As I prayed this morning, God gave me a vision.  In it, Jesus stood crucified and dying upon that famous mount called Golgotha.

Gologotha comes from an Aramaic derivative “gulgoleth” translated as skull or head.

In Christian circles, this famous hill is also categorized as Calvary for its Latin derivative “calvaria”, or skull.

If one looks cautiously at the picture on my post, he or she will appreciate the two cavernous holes resembling eye sockets on a skull and what appears as another vertical hole below them where a nose could be.  Above the skull, in the fenced in grassy knoll, is where tradition says, that the cross with Jesus crucified stood.

In my vision, as Jesus hung bleeding and dying, God took me down into the left eye socket of the skull. I would estimate that this eye could not be more than 15 feet below the base of the cross.

Deep inside the rocky socket a wooden table was set with twelve church goers eating. I could not tell what was served but everybody was obsessed with devouring the food. No one looked up. No one spoke. Everybody was transfixed with the sole role of consumption.   How sadly ironic that Jesus was bleeding and  dying fifteen feet above and no one recognized it, or cared to do so.

Have our churches become malls for Christian consumption?  Maybe so, but this was also a “Club Golgotha; Members Only Please!”

And have our churches become Club Golgothas where we dine, socialize and just cater to one another, as Jesus dies bleeding for the world,  dripping blood on top of our heads?

In my vision, someone finally got up from the table awe-struck at the Jesus in a piece of bread which he had picked up from the food.  As everybody else continued munching down at Club Golgotha, he went to the edge of the eye socket still transfixed on the bread. I knew that he was ready to leave Club Golgotha.  I realized that person was me. That person is you. That person is meant to be every Christian.

Yes, we are to assemble and not forsake one other. Yes, we need to fellowship, we are His body.  Yes, we are to go to church.

I love the church, and have laid my life down for it.

I love the church, and so enjoy ministering within it.

But Lord, deliver me from just being a Club Golgotha member. Lord delivers us all as we go to our respective churches!

May they not become Club Golgothas, lose their saltiness, and be worthy only to be trampled underfoot by wicked people

May the unchurched not see the church as an exclusive “members only” fraternity made up of legalistic and judgmental rules which prohibit the many who want to join.

May the church get away from Christian jargon and serve the world by being authentically real and genuinely loving.

Who today is ready to serve the church, but leave Club Golgotha?

I think that it’s not just a good idea but a “God Idea!”

What Are Young People Teaching Me?

Our church, has been blessed to go to Florida International University (FIU) on numerous occasions with a homemade meal and hang out with some of the great kids who attend.

I remember my university days, and that eating an occasional homemade meal was worth than gold.

The folks at the Wesley House Campus Ministry make our visits possible.

Part of what Wesley does, is to give students opportunity to know each other and discuss matters about God informally over a good meal.

I’ve met kids from Nepal, India, China, the Caribbean and South America.

I was a bit tentative when I went to FIU.

Since 2004 I have been heavily involved with the church. Doing mission trips to, and later moving to East Africa, our emphasis was on the church.

Now back in the USA as a pastor, my focus has continued to be with the church.

I had lost contact with the unchurched world.

The unchurched world of the 90’s is different to the unchurched world of the 2000’s.

The American 90’s were a time of prosperity. There was little need for God.

America was resistant to the gospel.

People were busy making money and segregated along political and social fronts.

With the launch of social media the world has become a huge amalgamated melting pot of people who have a great wish to reconnect by socializing.

It’s quite a phenomena which cannot be neglected.

The ghettoized lines between, liberals and conservatives, gays and straights, and atheists, Christians, and Muslims are being erased.

The self-sufficiency of the last decade is being exchanged by the realization that the guarantee of jobs after college, or a booming capitalist economy are gone.

The integrity of the USA political system is at its lowest ebb.

Leaders with godly convictions, are an endangered species.

Activist judges abound, who issue verdicts along political lines and not righteous integrity.

The churches’ prosperity teachers, which sadly turned off many, are now the rare birds.

The unchurched are no longer going to church to hear another religious message or an appeal for money.

The America of today, is much more assimilated along social lines.

Our nation is unknowingly coming back to God’s design for people.

I don’t see the hunger for God that I see in Africa.

I do see a fresh hunger for authenticity, relationships, a need to be heard and accepted.

I see a world that is hungry for fathers and mothers.

The new generations are shunning divisions and labels.

They are also shunning church for the sake of going to another meeting.

People are looking for authenticity, reality and genuine relationships.

The media tells me that Christianity is dying in the USA, but they are wrong.

Never did I meet disparagement or scorn when talking about God at FIU.

Nor did I see walls come up with my remarks about God.

Most young people do not wish to be politically correct.

They are looking to intelligent discussions and relationships as they carve out their destinies.

For us who profess Christ, we must step out of our Christian ghettos and into a world that is seeking authenticity, belonging, and genuine relationships.

As a Christian, I do not compromise my beliefs, and I express them boldly, but in love.

I don’t think that those around me want me to relinquish, politicize or sweeten them.

People are attracted to those who are willing to pay the high price to stand by their convictions.

I went to these luncheons with a 90’s mindset to be pleasantly surprised.

The independence and arrogance of the last decade have been replaced by the authenticity for honest relationships of this one.

I say to the church in closing, “reach out, step out, do the uncomfortable, be interactive, be real, and love those outside the church.’

People are people who want to know Christians as people before they know them as Christians.

I believe that you will be pleasantly surprised like me.

Guess where I am? At an FIU luncheon with some great kids!

Why Is The Church Accused?

Eph 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us (ACCUSATIVE NOUN CASE) with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

In the Greek, the accusative noun case is just what it says. The accusing finger points towards the object that will receive all judgment, sentence, or wrath. It’s a receptacle into where all is focused or pointed to. The accused object is the receptacle or the goal of the judgment.

If we turn this into something good, the object, placed in the accusative case, is the thing that all benefits is poured or funneled into.

The church is the entity into which all of God’s love, blessings, benefits, all that He is, and all the He wants to do, is focused into.

I call the church the receptacle of God’s funnel into which He pours all.

It’s up to us to increase our ability to receive.

His love and generosity are hyper transcendental.  It’s lavish above all limitations.

It’s limited by us and our boxed concepts. We have God, church, as matter of fact, all things in a box.

Romans 3: 27  Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. Through what law? Of works? No, but through the law of faith.

Because faith is a law, we get what we believe for. If we ask from boxed thinking, God will give us from a box.

Luke 16:20  But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores, who had been placed at his gate,

21  and longing to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. And even the dogs came and would lick his sores.

Lazarus faith level was to receive crumbs from the rich man’s table and that is what he got.

Are you believing for crumbs from the Lord’s table?

Sadly, most of the church is, and is getting just that by the law of faith.

Romans 12:2  And do not fashion yourselves after this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

The purpose of renewing our minds is so that we can think without limits. So that we can receive hyper transcend tally and lavishly from a God that is such.

God is tired of boxed religion, boxed church, alas, of having Him in a box.

The church is the object of His love, we are the charming ones, we have been translated into kingdom of The Son of His Love, and we are His beloved.

Most healing will come as a revelation of how much He truly loves every last part of you. Where you are sick, receive His love into that very place.

You are the receptacle of His love.

You are the one to whom God’s positively accusing finger points to!

You are the receptacle of God’s massive funnel and He is always funneling into you.

How To Hit The Bulls Eye With Your Prayers?

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

  • Helpeth are the three Greek words: sun anti lambano.

These three words means to meet face to face in order to for one to receive something from the other,

  • Helpeth our infirmities– The Greek tells us that the Holy Spirit comes face to face with us to take a hold together or receive from us our frailties, needs or problems.

27  And he that searcheth ( ereunaoo) the hearts knoweth( INTUITIVELY) what is the mind (FOCUS and MINDSET) of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession (entugchano) for the saints according to the will of God.

  • Searcheth: ereunaoo: To sound out like sonar hits the depths of the ocean.

The Holy Spirit then searches the depths of God to know His will.

We see this same word in the following verse.

1Co 2:10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth  (ereunaoo) all things, yea, the deep things of God.

So the Holy Spirit by His grace takes a hold of our needs and shows us the will of God for them.

The catch is that everything is done by the voice of the Spirit and not our own will or emotions.

  • The Spirit itself maketh intercession for us – Greek: (entugchano)

27  And he that searcheth ( ereunaoo) the hearts knoweth( INTUITIVELY) what is the mind (FOCUS and MINDSET) of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession (entugchano) for the saints according to the will of God.

  • Tugchano– To hit the bull’s eye, or “To hit the target above and beyond what is normal.” To do the right thing and do it with skill.”

Thus in intercession in the Holy Spirit, He takes our needs and reveals to us the will of God for them as He searches out God’s depths.

The revealed will of God is always spot on, or hits the bull’s eye.

So when we intercede in the Spirit and do what the Holy Spirit speaks to us, we always hit the bull’s eye in our prayers. It’s impossible to miss.
