Whew! The Move Is Over!

I hate moving!

We have made the big move to our self-hosted blog site @ WordPress.Org.

There are many new features that will benefit you and me.

With all the neat and new plugins comes a big learning curve for me.

I have a lot to do to get the site not just to where it was at, but make it much better.

One of the first things on my heart was not to lose you my faithful subscribers and friends.

I performed what is called a subscriber migration process to my new site which will allow you to continue to receive my posts.

The procedure takes a few days.

We will see how it pans out.

Fear not, you will not lose me and I will not lose you.

Many blessings,

Jose Alvarez

The Minimum Viable Product

I’ve struggled for years to write a book.

Now, the time has come, for God is speaking.

Entrepreneurs encourage when launching a new venture, to create the “Minimum Viable Product” (MVP).

Instead of committing years to a product which may fail, they encourage the dedication of a few months to create a MVP, put out limited copies on E Bay, for example, and modifying it according to customer feedback.

I will have this MVP done in two months, God willing!

The Power of the Crowd Church

My comments are related to what I’ve learned from the book Bold by Peter Diamandis.

With the advent of social media the crowd model has emerged.

The crowd model was relatively evil, initially.

It was birthed and organized in social media.

The early crowds were used in flash mobs, protests, and riots.

Now the crowd is being leveraged for good.

What about the creation a crowd church within a community?

The church is notoriously known as being “ My local church minded”, isolated and competing with other churches in a community.

If the church is to remain relevant it must break out of this model.

The church can have a local church vision but must adopt that of the crowd church.

Crowd funding:

Enter web sites Kickstarter and Inidiegogo.

One submits products and projects with the potential that interested people will fund them.

What about crowd funding through the concept of the crowd church?

This is crowd funding for churches within a city, but as important, for the city itself through the crowd church.

According to Peter Diamandis there is 15 billion dollars in crowd funding.

By 2020 it will be 100 billion dollars.

What would occur in a community if the crowd church would fund more for it, than any other enterprise. Would revival break?

Crowd Sourcing:

Exploiting the skills and giftings of the crowd instead of the one person.

The apostle Paul calls itthe ministry of the body of Christ versus a one man show.

Crowd ministry:

The notion of having a huge prayer line where many wait for the “ ministers of the day” is dinasourish.

I am embarrassed to make people wait 45 minutes to get prayed for.

Is this unattractive to the church visitor?

Release your ministry team in full!

Let go of your ego.

If you are the main speaker and people still want you to pray that is fine.

But the same Holy Spirit which moves through you moves through the other ministers.

Crowd teachers:

I’ve disagreed with brining in special speakers to do conferences while never tapping into the gifted ministers within the church body.

Any successful enterprise, except the church, raises those from within their ranks.

What about your special speakers be those who serve in your church?

It will make your church more dynamic.

Crowd Churches:

The power of churches within a community collaborating together. This is not  a onetime event for churches, but a way of life for a community.

Crowd Collaboration:

As churches collaborate together the  exponential power of collaboration explodes.

Churches can meet each other’s needs across a city.

The crowd church can meet the needs of the community far beyond any social program.

What would occur in a community if its needs were being met more by the crowd church than any other  social entity?

Crowd events:

Churches working together to create city wide events. Not just a onetime event, but a way of life.

What if  events created by the crowd church impacted the community more than any other type of event?

Crowd sourcing:

Using the resources of the crowd. This is similar to open sources on the web.

This could come as bartering exchanges so that everything is free. What about the church providing crowd sourcing through the crowd church?

What is the impact?

This will lead churches within a community into exponential growth.

Exponential organization using social networks and automation.

Properly built  and attractive communities which will impact the city.

To finally create a sophisticated church interface which a local community can tap into at any time and any place.

This is the power of exponential growth, exponential funding and exponential results through the crowd church.

The Feisty Jesus!

Stories from our ministry trip to NY in June 2014

We engaged a woman close to eighty in conversation
She was opinionated and feisty.
We were at odds even in our political views which she pulled out of a hesitant me.
She asked whom I had voted for in 2012
It was evident that she had desired the other one to win and shunned the candidates whom I had considered the lesser of political evils.
I said, “I think that the only hope is our coming back to God.”
At that she balked and laughed. “Oh religion!”, “You are not trying to push that on people?” “Let everyone live their lives!”
I told her that I was not. “Proselytizing, converting and debating does not work, “I replied.
So we sparred in a very cordial way.
Jesus’s spunkiness and feistiness were greater than hers.
I told her that I had been on drugs and drinking years back, which she had difficulty in believing.
She asked, ‘well how did you leave that behind?”
I told her that God had changed my desires.
“Oh don’t give God the credit, you did it yourself! “She snapped.
I looked at her and nicely replied, “I do give God the credit!”
She did not have much to say at this point.
All in all it was a delightful conversation, spiced with hearty jabs and anti-jabs.
Departing and shaking hands, the octarian looked at us saying “You are both very nice people.”
Though we were on opposing sides and though she did does not attribute the importance to Jesus which I do, what was present was the lovely Person of Jesus.
For many who are at odds with Christianity, the presence of Jesus is very attractive.
have met few who are not drawn to Him, though they may not realize it.
This Jesus had been the witty, spunky and feisty Jesus.
Jesus, the God and friend to all men and women.
He is the Jesus for all seasons.

Feisty

No One Knew!

These are stories from our ministry trip to New York in June 2014!

Eph 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
We are our way from Nyack NY to Miami.
God had proved the reality of the above verse.
But it was not always like this.
When the Lord called us to spend two months away from home and children it was scary.
Knowing that He would have to supply two separate set of bills was daunting.
No one except my wife knew that with less than two weeks before the trip, no money had come in.
No one knew that I was discouraged and frightened and was tempted to cancel the whole thing.
No one knew that it was until I got on my knees, and prayed that money came.
No one knew the apprehension that I had about going to the streets of America and share the love of Christ, after I heard hat religion is dead and that everyone is unreceptive towards God.
Don’t listen to the media! They don’t represent Americans.
I owed my accountant money for the taxes that we had filed before leaving.
No one knew how God miraculously covered our mortgage by someone whom we don’t know too well.
No one knew how large sums of money came in from people whom I have little contact with.
No one knew how almost one thousand dollars came in this Sunday in NY so that we could return back to Miami.
No one knew that when we arrived in Nyack and knew that God told us to go out to the streets I tried to make excuses not to do so.
No one knew that we had no idea where and how to start ministering the love of Christ outside the church walls.
Religion might be dead in America but not God.
We encountered an overwhelming hunger from so many for the love and kindness of God.

Everyone is hungry for relationships, to talk, to be listened to, to be shown an interest in, or to get a prayer from God.
For seven weeks ministry has not ceased as God brought us divine appointment after divine appointment.
We did not experience hostility or rejection. Those who were atheists, or into yoga or new age, were kind to us. So many ideas were exchanged.
With open arms we were welcomed by the body of Christ in Rockland County in NY.
We had opportunity to go to my wife’s 40th year high school reunion in CT, which was awesome.
My daughter Hannah visited us.
Our friends from Miami, Maria Passwaters and Joyce Jones flew in and got caught in the flow of the revival spirit hitting Rockland County.
Why do write all this?
It’s not to tout my horn, lol!
I am just a mortal like you.
I struggled with the same sins, deal with the same unbelief that everyone does.
But I think that I’ve learned to push into the dreams which God has given me.
I’ve learned to obey God at all costs.
I have learned that to be a spectator to someone else’s vision is suicide.
I have learned that allowing fear to overtake me to where my destiny is jeopardized creates chronic boredom.
I’ve learned how to laugh at myself and to be a fool for Chris rather than to be someone else’s wise man.
So many miss out on what Mary and I experience because they choose not to obey.
So many miss out on the amazing things that God has for them because they do not jump into the waters of God’s adventures.
So many will live and die missing what God had for them.
For many, Christianity is a spiritual spectator sport where people vicariously participate through the testimonies of the few who play.
God has called none to be an onlooker and everyone to play.
Don’t let this be you. Test and see that God is good, but do test.

“Just Friggin Start!”

If you have a call to begin a You Tube Channel and have procrastinated, listen to the counsel of the experts at the “Playlist” You Tube Conference.

When You Tube commenced eight years ago, it was not what it is today.

It was much smaller, many less subscribers, and had fewer video tools.

Some of today’s big names were the pioneers of You Tube 6- 8 year back.

They persevered long without recognition.

Such are pioneers and trailblazers.

We, who start a channel today, have it easy, thanks to them.

Here’s what they say!

It takes hard work.

Stay the course.

Some of us have been at this 6-8 years.

Be patient.

Be yourself

Make it unique

Be true to yourself.

I am not going to wait for someone else to say it, I am going to start.

It can be lonely.

But when you connect with people, the whole thing goes beyond you. That is what motivates us.

I take one eight hour day and pull it in into one brief video.

Shut out the worrying and the critical comments, go forward, and be confident.

If some do not hate you, you are not causing an impact.

Pop out your story every day

And the greatest wisdom from a Christian You Tuber!

It’s My Right!

Today I discovered the greatest, and the most destructive, of my prisons.

Really, I did not discover it.

Jesus took me there.

This is the prison of my rights.

It was a deep and subconscious penitentiary; a moated and lofty castle of my rights, my life, my control, my religion, my opinions, my beliefs, my expectations, my dreams, and my plans.

This was the one castle I would not allow God in.

I had constructed it when I had been hurt as a child, and fear and mistrust came in.

It was a towering fortress for me protecting myself. In this bastion of my rights, no one and nothing could hurt me.

Not even God, Himself.

From here I controlled my life, even my death.

The dilemma though, is that because I am born in sin, it blinded me, and the path that I designed ended in destruction.

A blind man cannot see.

I had a glimpse of this mental fortress.  It was a little drought stricken piece of land, exceedingly dry and cracked.

Rain had not fallen upon it for many, many years.

There was one tiny sickly plant that had broken through its cracked terrain.

That little plant represented my rights, I had vowed to defend.

It had shut me in, oppressed, and separated from my loving Creator.

I prayed today, and felt a stone hard place in my soul, close to my heart, where this land resides for all people.  It’s named, “hardness and embitterment of heart.”

Everybody owns it.

It’s the created place of past pain, where everybody vows not to be hurt again, and now dwell deceptively protected in this “the land of the hardened heart of my rights.”

If left long undealt with enough it becomes a birthplace for “would be murderers.”

As I interceded in earnest, Jesus opened the padlock to this prison and let me out.

I know now that I can be healed and freed.

Every person partakes of this prison. Every human lives in the parched and barren land of his rights. He will do anything not to relinquish it.

He might even go to hell claiming this land, even if all he has, is its memories.

“Not even God will I let in”, he swears.

It’s all about protecting this little parched piece of land. It’s the little place of safety.

We believe that we know better than God, as we pace back and forth in absolute darkness, in this our tiny castled dungeon, feeling very right, justified and smart.

“I know that God is out to steal this dungeon right from under my feet; He is such a bully”, another protests.

What God has is so much more extravagantly massive, yet in the blindness of pain, we clasp to our detention house.

We are on a miniscule sandbar in the middle of an enormous ocean of blessings that God has for us, but we are so intent on holding on to the sandbar of our rights, that we never look up to see the waters that surrounds us.

“The sandbar is mine”, she says.

“It’s my rights, it’s my opinions, and it’s my life.”

So we give up the colossal for the minuscule, and justify ourselves in doing so.

In reality, the only rights given to us are the right to worship and obey God.  I mean, God is the only one who is not blind.

Many will die in this prison, clenching this tiny dust bowl with the last gasp of breath.

I wish that I would have surrendered earlier to the One who can be fully trusted, and who longed to get me out, and not served a miserable 57 year sentence.

I praise God that I am finally out, though.

When will you be done with your sentence?

How A Hurricane Taught Me God’s Voice

My first encounter with hearing God’s voice occurred with Hurricane David on August of 1979.

I had just given my life to Jesus Christ.

We lived on Key Biscayne Florida, which is an island surrounded by water.

My father, and my now deceased mother, were getting divorced and my father had left our home.

When Hurricane David was tracking across Santo Domingo, I I heard the voice of God, for the first time.

He told me that David would not hit Miami.

I told my parents that God had spoken.

Many people are shocked when hearing that God speaks personally.

I don’t know why that is so strange.

If He created the mouth, why should He not also speak?

I was an impulsive young man, full of faith in the God who had captured my heart, with His love.

David, however, was zeroing in on Miami.

Forty eight hours before arriving, the Key Biscayne Police Department drove through the island recommending everyone to evacuate.

I told my family!

“I am not leaving, because God told me that the hurricane is not going to hit. I am going to prove to you that God talks to me.”

We boarded up the home and my mother, brother, and sister left for a Holiday Inn, just outside Key Biscayne.

I remained with my Living Bible, a weather radio, and a few flashlights.

With the eye of the hurricane now 10 hours away, light rains began.

I watched TV and read verses from the Bible.

The winds and rains strengthened.

Suddenly the power went out!

With the lack of noise, I could plainly hear the ever-increasing winds.

My mother telephoned and pleaded with me to come to the Holiday Inn.  I panicked.

I got the keys to the car to leave.

When I opened the front door, violent winds and horizontal rains bombarded me.  There was no way out.

Trying to phone my mother, communication had dropped.

I did not know if I had heard a demon or God!

It was 1:00 AM.

The eye of David was to hit Miami at 6:00 AM.

My weather radio also lost power.

The only sounds were the screeches of the winds which became more boisterous by the minute.

I was petrified.

I got my Bible and the flashlight and read from the Book of Job.

It’s when we step out unto the fragile limb of faith that the Lord acts.

With flashlight shining on the giant print Bible I read.

Job 38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

God spoke to Job out of the whirl wind!

God was now speaking to me out of the whirl wind!

Job 40:15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

The behemoth in the King James Version is cattle or a water buffalo, or a rhinoceros.

But as I read this scripture, my flashlight hit a darkened part of the wall, and landed upon a huge white moth!

Behemoth….moth!   The timing could only be God’s!

At 3:30 AM the winds increased all the more.

I got angry at God. I ranted. I climbed on top of a chair and shook my fist.

“You told me that the hurricane was not going to hit.” You are lying to me, I am going die out here.”

God answered Job and me from the whirlwinds.

He rebuked me for my panic attack!

Job 40:6 Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

7  Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

8  Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

9  Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

Then in Job 42.

Job 42:8  Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

When I read “my servant Job shall pray for you”, I dropped the Bible, fell on my face and unto the cold white tile.

“Oh God, please forgive me, I was wrong. Please make the hurricane turn around.”

For ninety minutes I prayed, face on the icy floor.

The winds intensified the more.

I increased my prayers.

After an hour, with my face still buried the winds began to decrease.

By 5:00 AM there was a substantial reduction in the wind speed.

I kept on praying.

By six o clock the winds were only 50 miles per hour.

The eye of hurricane should have been on top of Miami.

I had no electricity or phone. I had no idea what occurred.  I fell asleep exhausted.

Later I learned that at 5:00 AM when David was over the Bahamas, its steering currents shifted and prodded the hurricane northward.

What a miracle!

This is how I began to hear and learn the voice of God.

In the photo, notice the slight jog of the hurricane to the north very close to Florida. This is when I was praying.

“HE SHOOTS BUT DIDN’T SCORE” by Lance Wallnau

INSIDE THE MIND OF A “PROGRESSIVE” AT A PRAYER MEETING.
To be candid, I am not one of those Christians with a visceral disliking of the President. I believe we can’t “pray FOR rulers” and talk AGAINST them. That being said, when the President steps out of his office into commentary on faith at a prayer gathering he engages a different kind of conversation…and response.
ENTER the President at the National Prayer Breakfast this week. In case you missed it, after criticizing ISIS with appropriate remarks, the president said: “And lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place — remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ.”
PRAYER BREAKFAST CHRISTIANS ON A HIGH HORSE?
Here is where the President started drifting.
First, do American Christians need to “get off their high horse” in their response to Islamic barbarism? At that prayer gathering Mr. President was worried. That’s not a high horse it’s high anxiety!
Obama is actually spiritually tone deaf. The people he spoke to didn’t exist in that room.
Second, does he still believe Islam does not have a problem? For 6 years Obama has forcefully tried to separate Islam from what terrorists do, in the name of Islam. He has a sweet spot for Islam and sees the Jihadists as frustrated extremists who have been made so, largely because of America. To him the terrorists are giving beautiful Islam a bad name.
ISIS is bad he says, but this week he associated these atrocities with Christian history, sighting the Crusades and Spanish Inquisition.
CHRISTIAN AMERICA AND THE INQUISITION?
“Crusades?” Really? Didn’t that happen 700 years before America was formed? But that does not matter to the guest speaker.
Let’s explore this linkage in an Obama wired brain:
the Islamic quest for a Caliphate is what Christians did once also. Just like ISIS is trying to create, by conquest, a unified Islamic State, those prayer breakfast Christians tried to create the same thing. Oh how you forget. Yes you, my friend, are guilty of the Medieval Popes’ Crusades and the Inquisitions.
This point must have really hit home to the crowd, three-fourths of whom are Protestant and in fact would have been persecuted by the Inquisition. Times have changed and so has the Catholic church. Can you imagine how brain dead you would have to be to remind your Catholic friend about his culpability in the Spanish Inquisition?
THIS is the progressive left psychology many of you have been warning me about. The President helped me. Honestly. I had an awakening.
SHAME ON YOU!
The “Progressive Left” professors have been shaming American kids through the University and education system for over two decades. The Left points out everything wrong with America and nothing right. By shaming our history, we lose our patriotic love for country and along with that the balanced truth about our history.
The left shames the whites about slavery.
The heterosexual is shamed for not being “open” to gay marriage.
Feminism shames men for wanting girls to be girls.
The productive people with money are shamed into giving more and more back “of their fair share”, as Obama puts it.
And this week the left shames Christians for their connection to the Crusades, Inquisition and Slavery with its aftermath in Jim Crow laws.
And now I am ashamed I didn’t see this earlier. The Left Progressives by feeding the young and the discontented with a narrative of “resentment” toward America and its Christian roots, have been simultaneously shaming all the opposition into submission.
WHAT ABOUT THOSE CRUSADES?
Bishop E.W. Jackson said last night on FOX NEWS in response to the President: “I would remind the president that the Crusades began in 1096 as a response to Islamic aggression, and the fact was they had conquered the Holy Land and they were oppressing eastern Christians. And there was a response to that, so if the President is even gonna cite that as an example, then he ought to get his history complete.”
Obama didn’t stop with comparing today’s Jihadists to Christian sins of 800 to 1,000 years ago. He spoke about Jim Crow laws. True. Here are some high carb fat facts:
1. There were Christians in the South fighting to defend the abominable institution of slavery and they resisted Lincoln’s post war Reconstruction.
2. There were Christian abolitionists in the North who agitated the nation into war.
3. There was a Christian named Wilberforce who eradicated slavery in England.
4. Christianity on the whole is history’s most civilizing agent and the greatest foundation for a free and prosperous society.
Should THAT not be the message a Christian leader makes on an occasion such as this?
By reminding us of what happened 900 years ago or with Jim Crow, Obama is saying in effect – you prayer breakfast Christians of all people should be humble in “assuming you have all the answers” or a direct line to divine revelation.
Man. Talk about edifying the brothers at a national prayer gathering. If you were a guest hearing this (as many world leaders were) would you be inspired by the President’s faith in the Gospel? I’d sooner have hired Jack Kevorkian as a wedding DJ than have this President marketing America or the power of faith.
WHY CHURCHILL IS HAVING A RESURGENCE
The WEEK had this to say: “Churchill, in summoning the British people during the existential threat of World War II, didn’t dwell on their faults — in fact, he talked about defending “Christendom” and western civilization. As Joe Scarborough said today, Obama’s comments are “the equivalent of FDR, when giving a speech against Nazi Germany, going, ‘Now, of course, what we did to the Indians…really bad….so we really have no room to talk about what Hitler is doing.”
So the President linked the misdeeds of Christianity past with the misdeeds of Islam today. And where does he fit in this continuum? He is not numbered among those pompous Christians in that room. He is the enlightened humble statesman.
By linking the worst of Christianity past with the atrocities of Islam today you get a glimpse into the Obama worldview about religion and faith and public policy.
IS ISLAM IN TRANSITION?
See the problem? Forget theology. Forget the fact that Catholicism had a Reformation and Islam needs one. Does this President see the militant threat for what it is? No. He sees Islam in transition and Christian (right wing) America he sees as its haughty critic. Hence his history sermonette this week.
He does not understand the issue. Islam desperately needs its Reformation and no Martin Luther has stepped up to the plate. Until that happens the link between the radical and the Koran is unchecked and the threat increases.
The equating of radical Islam to Christianity is an error in metaphor and policy.
This isn’t a right wing / left wing editorial response. It’s a moment of clarity into how this President sees the world’s single greatest threat in a nuclear age. Praying his successor is less Neville Chamberlin and more Churchillian.
TO BE FAIR TO MY PRESIDENT
Let’s not misquote the President. He did say this: “Our job is not to ask that God respond to OUR NOTION OF TRUTH — our job is to be true to Him, His word, and His commandments…. And that means we have to speak up against those who would misuse His name to justify oppression, or violence, or hatred with that fierce certainty. No God condones terror. No grievance justifies the taking of innocent lives, or the oppression of those who are weaker or fewer in number.”

That’s a good speech ending – but not entirely true. This president DOES act on his “notion of truth” and has advanced it in the gay agenda and policy toward not arming Jordan, removing troops when they were needed in Iraq to keep ISIS from coming into existence, and his attitude toward working with Israel right now. He manages our 18 trillion dollar deficit based on his notion of truth. If nothing else, this leader has very high opinions of his notions and an equal consistency in their pursuit.
It’s “his notions” that are problematic.
May God give him great wisdom as he sets the stage for the next act of American history, and may we find a leader who can speak at a prayer breakfast and inspire the world to know Jesus! Hopefully someone that actually likes America.
