God VersusThe Hurricane

My first encounter with God’s voice occurred with Hurricane David in August of 1979.

I was a babe in Christ, having given my heart to Him six months before.  I did not know other believers and did not have a steady church to go until 1981.

I thank God that my fellowship was only with TBN, Jim and Tammy Baker and Jimmy Swaggart, even though I was so so lonely. I was forced to learn to pray and study the Bible for myself. I had to learn about the Kingdom of God, and of Satan, by myself.

In those days, we lived on Key Biscayne. My father, and my now deceased mother, were getting divorced and my father had moved out of our home.

I used to idolized hurricanes and tornadoes spending hours in front of the Weather Channel.  When Hurricane David was tracking across Santo Domingo, I believed that I heard the voice of God, for the first time.  I thought that God told me that David was not going to hit South Florida.

I told my parents that God had told me that David was not going to hit.  Many people are shocked with that type of statement.

“How does God speak to you?”

Or they associate you with as a nutcase who hears voices in his head. My parents, in those days, thought of my conversion to this God as totally absurd, fanatical, and worthy of being hauled into a psych ward.

I was an impetuous and rash young man full of faith in the God who was transforming me.

“God told me that the hurricane is not going to hit,” I retorted time and time again.

David, however, with massive wind fields was zeroing in on Miami and Key Biscayne, which was surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.

About 48 hours before its arrival, the Key Biscayne Police Department drove around with megaphones telling people to evacuate the island.  I don’t know what I would have done now, to honor my parents.

Back then I said:

“I am not leaving, because God told me that the hurricane is not going to hit. I am going to prove to you that God talks to me. “

You can imagine what my family thought of me, and what I put them through.  But obedience is better than any sacrifice we can make.

David had its refined sight still honed upon the Magic City. Most of the island evacuated. We boarded the home and my mother, brother and sister left for the Holiday Inn on the edge of the key. I stayed in the boarded house with my giant print, green Living Bible, a weather radio, and a few flashlights.

With the eye of the potent hurricane 10 hours away, light rains began. I had the TV on and read verses from the Bible.  The winds and rains intensified. Suddenly the lights went out.  I only had my little weather radio.  With the absence of noise, I could clearly hear the ever-increasing winds.  I became glued to my radio. To my dismay, David was quickly pouncing upon South Florida. What would happen if the Key flooded and I was there all alone?

My mother frantically telephoned and pleaded with me to come out to the Holiday Inn.  I freaked. I got the keys to the car and decided to flee the Key. Opening the door, howling winds and horizontal rains pelted me.  There was no way out. Trying the phone back to my mother, the lines had dropped.  I was left with no communication, no electricity, and not knowing if I had heard a demon instead of God.

It was about 1:00 AM. The eye was to hit at about 6:00 AM.  I then heard a voice from the dead TV set. To this day, I do not know what it said. For sure it was a man’s voice.

My weather radio also died.  The only sounds now were the shrieks of the winds which got more potent and boisterous. I was terrified.

I got my Bible and the flashlight and began to read from the Book of Job. It must have been 3:00 AM.

It’s in the midst of walking on water that God answers. It’s when we step out on the fragile limb that the Lord acts.

With flashlight shining on the giant print, and hooting winds engulfing me, I opened to the Book of Job. It wasn’t long before I came to the following verse.

Job 38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

That is when I knew that God was speaking. God talking to Job out of the whirl wind!  God was now talking to me out of the whirl wind! It was bizarre.  As I read on I came to the following verse.

Job 40:15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

I know that the behemoth in the King James Version is cattle, a water buffalo, or a rhinoceros. But as I read this scripture, the rays of my flashlight hit a darkened part of the wall, and landed on a huge white moth!    Behemoth….moth!   The timing could only be God’s! It was surreal.

At about 3:30 AM the winds augmented all the more.  I got angry at God. I ranted for half an hour at Him. I climbed on a chair and shook my fist at Him.

“You told me that the hurricane was not going to hit.” “You are lying to me, I am going die out here.”

Stuff like this went on as the winds grew and abounded before my ears.

I opened back to Job, frantic for an answer.

God then answers Job and me again from the whirlwinds.  This time He rebuked me for my panicky rant.

Jb 40:6  Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

7  Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

8  Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

9  Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

10  Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.

11  Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.

12  Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

13  Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.

14  Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

I read on until Job 42.

Job 42:7   And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

8  Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

At that moment that God says “ my servant Job shall pray for you”,  I dropped my Bible, and lunged on my face unto the icy cold white tile floor.

“ Oh God, please forgive me, I was wrong. Please make the hurricane turn around.”

For ninety minutes I cried out with all my soul for God to have mercy and spare me. The winds amplified the more. I redoubled my efforts.

“ Oh God, I am sorry, please make the hurricane turn around”.

Then after an hour, lo and behold, with my face still buried frozen in the cracks of the floor, the winds began to decrease.

By 5:00 AM there was a significant reduction in the wind speed. I kept on praying. By six o clock the winds were only about 50 miles per hour. The eye should have been upon Miami.  There was no power or phone. I had no idea what happened.  I fell asleep exhausted.

In the early afternoon  I  walked to the 7-11 and bought a copy of the Miami Herald.  I was then to discover that at about 5:00 AM when David was over the Bahamas, its steering currents shifted and thrust the hurricane northward. Indeed, David did not hit Miami.  Indeed it was then that I began to hear and learn the voice of God.

My encounter with Hurricane David concluded in a most dramatic way. That fateful afternoon as the hurricane barreled northward away from Miami, I laid on my bed, alone in the still boarded home.  I then heard a loud bell clang  between my ears and a voice which followed  “ Devastating hurricane, flee Homestead, flee Key Biscayne.”  For years after this, I tried to understand why people should flee Homestead. Key Biscayne yes, but Homestead does not have an ocean or river. Well, we all know about Andrew and Homestead. Thirteen years after that voice, Homestead was decimated by the eye of Andrew. Every tree in Key Biscayne was splintered in half. When Andrews  was coming, I tried to pray Andrew out of South Florida,  but God would not let me. Only He knows why.  God is truly amazing!

Whatever the man called, that was its name

Gen 2: 19  Out of the ground Yahweh God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call  (qara) them. Whatever the man called (qara) every living creature that was its name.

Hebrew: And all, whatever man (Adam) labeled ever part of God’s creation, that was the name of it.

The word  “call” is “qara” in the Hebrew.  Biblical calling has greater connotation than the simple articulation of an utterance.

“Qara” implies the labeling of creation, events, or circumstances with the words of our mouth.

Labeling classifies the object into a specified category, for good or bad.

Rom 3:27  Where then is the boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.

As we studied, faith is a law. A law triggers specific results in quantified circumstances. Faith is a potent thing, for good or for evil. Every answer that we  procure from God must come by faith. Many a time God has kept me in the lurch of trial until I  learned  to ask and believe by faith.

One day of great faith does more than one month of prayer.

When calling “qara” by faith, I place a label on what I call, and appoint it into a category.

By my labeling I  assert sovereignty into that which I labeled. Summarily I decree  what it will do, since I have classified, branded, and narrowed its functions within the category. I  restrict the object to perform the specified tasks commensurate with its classification. Within those tasks, I endow the object with what it needs to complete them, for good or evil.

God did not label His  creation. It was man! God brought every part of His creation to see what man would name and label it.

Adam’s labeling thousands of years  ago, remains in full effect. Out of the mouth of one mortal, creation functions for us today, or we function for it. Many a time we are its prisoner, and all this, out of the mouth of one man, a long time ago.

What power God gives man!

What power lies in the tongue!

What freedom of will God gives, that He waited on Adam to see what he would choose. God honored what Adam chose! He waits to see whether we choose Jesus or not; whether we send ourselves to heaven or hell. He honors our decision.

I think of Christopher Hitchens. God honored his atheism. I pray that he found His maker.

Circumspectly we talk to our children, our neighbors and ourselves. We are creatures of labeling, and as with Adam, whatever we call, that is its name, for good or for evil!

Humanity’s Downfall; Its Many Heads

Eph 1:10  for an administration of the fullness of times, to head up all things in Christ, both the things in Heaven, and the things on earth, even in Him,

Paul’s great discourse in Ephesians highlights a vital principle. Part of Christ’s prodigious work is to head up the universe in Himself.

The verb “ to head up all things” is the word duo, “anakephalaiomai”.

Kephale is the noun, head.

Ana, is the preposition “ doing or bringing up something once again.”

Christ’s stately reconciliatory work brings back all universal things under His headship.

Currently, many things, through sin, are not under this headship. But Christ  always works, and one day in the new heavens and earth, will be the Supreme Head.

Phillip 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

That at the Name of Jesus every type of knee belonging to things in heaven, on earth, and subterranean places should bow.

11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

And every type of tongue will confess outwardly as an inward recognition of the Supremeness of Him, that Jesus Christ is Lord unto the glory of God the Father.

Reflecting back on thirty three years of spiritual progress I end on one thing.  I, being the head, instead of Christ, has been utterly destructive.

I don’t condemm those who sin. I understand them. Sin is the medicating of pain and a misguided attempt to experience God through its pleasure.

Christ saved me, an agnostic kid, at twenty five.

I quit Vanderbilt University as a junior.  My life was a disaster. A severe stutterer, a drug user of ten years, alcohol for fifteen, an addict to pornography, enveloped with a spirit of rejection and profusely insecure, I had hit rock bottom.

Pain has caused me to be exceptionally independent.  The independence of human civilization from God is the greatest curse, I discovered.

Independence is a way to protect myself from pain. Often hurt as a kid, I self-programmed  to think“ this time I will do it my way.”  Independence!  Or, “I will never let so and so hurt me again.”  Independence, once again!

I know what is better for me. I know better than the other guy. Heck! I even know better than God!…..and so I lived like this.

When  meeting Christ I was decidedly independent and knew what was best.

So many were my defense mechanisms against pain and rejection.  So calloused and bitter was my heart against people.

I have been an obedient Christian since the “get go.”  I am as passionate about  Jesus now as I was thirty-three years back. Since my first pursuit of Him, I have never become wearied. I have obeyed Him in everything which He asks.

Yet, my spiritual progress has been a protracted battle of seeking my own ways.

There is always something which I thought I knew better than God.

I have battled with ungratefulness in one way, or anger in another way, demanding that God should do this and that,  in such a time or fashion.

I  confess to these inward struggles engaged in me till today.

Independence from God  has detained me in demonic bondage, and sickness, longer than  needed.  I should have been free years back.

I did this to medicate myself from further pain. I deceived myself to be independent from the One who never wants to hurt, but rather heal.

Are we not blinded like this?  Woe to us, sightless creatures of strongholds and habits.

Being protected  from this wonderful God, under the arrogant  banner of independence is a great curse. We run from Him who wants to heal and jump to the hands of him who destroys.

We are duped to think that we know best. Oh yes, of course even better than God!  With our mouths we say “never”, but with our lives we live the lie.

As fugitives from  God we ended up in hell, abhorring the One who saves.

I can say, that I slowed down my freedom through obstinate independence.

Now I see that God knows better than me. Christ is the head, and not I.

Independence, stubbornness, and arrogance are all products of the head. If I am the head, then Christ is not. If I know better than Him, He will allow me to heal and free myself. He will let me guide myself.  So are the failed exercises of mankind. Their historical repetitions and observation have served  little purpose, since civilization stills flee from God through independence.

I, being the head instead of Christ, band aided my wounds and prohibited God from reaching them, keeping them fresh and raw.

Independence has kept the gashes of childhood  tucked safely away, unhealed and bleeding, by stubborn refusal to surrender something God asked for.  Woe to me, confused to forbid God from touching something He so much wants to heal.

So I am learning!

Absolute  surrender to Him at every moment is the key to healing. There is no other way.

He is the head. I am not. He thinks better than me. He knows me better than me. He sees the future better than me. He provides better than me. I don’t need to protect myself from Him. He is not out to hurt me.

Humanity’s curse is that it’s the head and not Christ.

The head of humanity is blind and deaf.  Its thoughts are dysfunctional.

Its strongholds have suckered mankind to flee from the One who heals.  “God wants to make your life boring, and rob you from having fun,”  so the head retorts.

Oh the joy, of not being the head anymore. Fifty seven years this had been my role. I had to help God out. Sometimes, He did not know what was best!

For the next fifty seven Christ will be. He looks and hears for me and tells me what to do. I simply follow. The whole burden is gone!

Mt 19:28  And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration (paliggenesia) when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Tit 3:5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration (paliggenesia), and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

The regenerative work of Christ is called paliggenesia; that is “to bring back to Genesis”. Creation in Genesis had no sin or bondage.  Through  reconciliation, sanctification and regeneration, God brings us back to our beginnings at Genesis.

Full access only comes though to those who are not the head.

God was the head before Adam sinned, but when he fell, Adam became the head, and so now we have a many-headed humanity.

Are you the head or is it Christ?  Be blatantly truthful with yourself and with your God.

The Nyamira Kenya Bible Conference: The Teacher’s Notes: Part Five

Time in the Presence of God Liberates Us

2Thess 2:7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

The word for “destroy” means to make useless, idle or ineffective, the works of the Evil One.

Thorough Purity Liberates Us

John 14:30  Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.

Absolute binding of the enemy can only occur, when each and every part of our lives have come into conformity with the will of the Lord, and the enemy is forbidden a place or space where he can afflict us

There is no absolutely no relationship between the demonic and Jesus.

Eph 4:27  Neither give place to the devil.

Another version renders “giving place”, as the construction of an airport runway.  Any time that we disobey the Lord, we automatically build an airport runway on our bodies for demons to land.

Romans 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession(Homologia) is made unto salvation.

True confession is the verbal confession that describes accurately what is inside of us.

Rev 12:11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

The true Greek interpretation; we have overcome Satan by means of the blood of the lamb and by means of the word of our martyrdom.

Mat 12:43  When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

He travels continually throughout differing arid places “seeking a cessation of his now unpleasant circumstances” (because he has been cast out of the man), and in no way finds it (showing the necessity the demons have to have a living being).

Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

I will return into my house whence I came out, and having come, finds it vacant and occupied, and in a perfected state of being swept, and cosmetically adorned.

2 Tim 1:9  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Called us with an holy calling   The holiness of the Lord is what cuts or sets us apart from the world so that God can use us for His sacred, uniquely rare, and highly specialized eternal purposes.  This is the opposite of what the world is involved at large. The common purposes entangling the masses are what God calls the profane.  My father has always told me “Jose, remember, the crowd is usually wrong.”

Ezekiel 44:23  And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.

The calling of God entails first an invitation for us to become born again.  This calling however must lead us into our spiritual vocation, which is holy, cut from the world, and highly specialized in a military fashion of sorts.  If as believers we are simply content to become born again, but do not allow the Lord to separate us enough from the profane, we will not enter into the fullness of our spiritual vocation and will have missed our calling.

Exo 26:33  And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.

And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy place.

The American College Dictionary defines for us testimony as “ evidence in support of a fact or statement.” Therefore, within the Ark of the Covenant resides the complete and absolute evidence that supports all the facts of whom God really is.  In other words the fullness of God dwells inside.  Therefore the church’s great responsibility is to give to the world at large with preciseness, who God really is.  It must so fully declare Him that the world has all the facts that it needs, to accept God or reject Him.  In reality, the testimony of God is no different to the testimonies given by witnesses in a courtroom.  The purpose of testimonies is to give a jury with enough factual evidence that will allow it to reach a truthful verdict.

Not With Human Flesh

Heb 8:5  Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

When Moses was about to build the tabernacle for God, God cautioned him to accurately construct it in accordance to a specific pattern that He would show him.  The Lord has a particular and unique pattern of ministerial construction for every local assembly, and every corporate and personal ministry.  In our Greek scriptures the word “admonished” is defined as “divine instruction according to revelation.” This is an exhortation for us to cautiously build our ministries step by step in line with the Holy Spirit’s wishes.

Rev 5:5 And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:

The brilliancy and the glory of the original blueprint of a NT fellowship in the heavenly realm create a shadow, or an outline, to those who have been called to faithfully reproduce it here on earth. Our great responsibility is to reproduce it to the heavenly original with the greatest of earthly accuracy.

The blessings of God will fall upon this fellowship in proportion to how accurately it has been reproduced in “accordance with the pattern shown in the mount.”

Heb 8:2  A minister ( a religious minister) of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not( “in no case”  absolute negative) man.

Greek: A minister of the sanctuary and of the authentic and “built according to the blueprint of God” tabernacle of God, which the Lord fixed in place, and had absolutely nothing to do with man.  The church of God must be built upon the authenticity and genuineness of God’s pattern.

Heb 11:10  For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder(technician, architect or craftsman)and maker(the author of a work) is God.

Acts 17:24  God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands

Greek: Absolutely never dwells in handmade temples

Heb 9:23  It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

24For Christ is not entered(absolutely never made by hands.) into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Heb 9:11  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

Greek:  A greater and more perfect tabernacle, absolutely never made with hands, and not of this creation.

It cannot be of the earthly or fleshly creation.

Our hands cannot touch it.

God’s must be genuine and correct according to the heavenly plan.

It has nothing to do with man’s agendas and plans.

The Lord must be the one to author and build it.

Ministers and Money

Eph 4:14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Greek:  By the “spiritual dice playing” of men in which they work around you with the goal of implementing the methodology of error.

Beware of the “winds of doctrine” about financial prosperity that are not scriptural.

Romans 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

“Doctrines of men” activate the methods of error, and suppresses the righteousness of God.  God’s righteousness is the visible manifestation of His glorious deeds upon the earth.  If we teach, or are taught what is wrong, the activity of the Spirit of God is restricted in proportion to the error.

1Tim 6:5  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt  ( thoroughly corrupted)  minds, and destitute (defrauded) of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness (esteeming as the law or the custom of the land that material acquisition brings godliness): from such withdraw thyself.

John 1:2  Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

New Testament prosperity comes from two words that mean a “good road” or a  “good path”.   This implies success or accomplishing in an expeditious matter what we have set out to do.  If we want to have true success in our finances as believers, our success must start with a prosperous spiritual condition.

Matthew 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Greek: You cannot be a slave to two lords… You will hate one, and love the other one unconditionally…you will embrace one; and think little of the other…Ye cannot be a slave to God and to material acquisitions.

Matthew six and twenty four is another one of those “famous” proportional scriptures.  To the extent that we embrace material gain for selfish motives is to the same extent that we will think little of, and hate the Lord.  By hating the Lord, I mean to say that we will hate what He requires from us that regard the yielding up of the material wealth that we dearly embrace. Our ability to obey the Lord, as Lord, will be restricted likewise to the extent that we are submitted to the lordship of material gain.

1 Tim 6:6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.

Greek (paraphrase & my thoughts):  What is great gain is (not selfish material acquisition but) godliness with contentment.

Contentment  – Is a most interesting word.  It is defined as the state of being so filled with the Spirit of God that the believer is self-sufficient solely in the fullness of the Spirit.  By this self-sufficiency I mean, that the Christian is totally free or independent from being swayed or trapped by the sufficiency that comes from external circumstances and worldly affairs.   His or her sole sufficiency is in the Lord and not upon external means. This type of believers are content with having little or much, because they independently self-sufficient from the world, and solely dependent and self-sufficient in the revelation of the Lord Jesus.

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

I love how the Greek NT scholar Marvin Vincent translates this scripture; “ We brought nothing into this world because we can carry nothing out.”

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Greek:  And having food and covering we shall be self-sufficient in the Lord.

But they that will(to plan for and deliberately purpose to ) be rich fall into temptation( the trials of the devil and sin) and a snare (the same word used for a snare used to catch birds and beasts, unaware), and into many foolish(void of understanding)  and hurtful( injurious)  lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.( which cause men to sink into destruction and perdition)

Destruction: Destruction has to do with many types of earthly calamities, bondages, and illnesses that come to plague people as they make it their chief aim to become rich

Perdition – Perdition can also be termed as destruction, but many times it is the outcome of the destruction brought by the love of money.  Perdition can contain within it both spiritual and eternal aspects. The calamities brought by the love of money on many occasions send people to hell because the lord mammon has taken the precedence over the Lord Jesus.

Revelation 9:11  And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

The name Appollyon, which the angel of the bottomless pit, comes from the same root word for perdition.  Both are defined as “destroyer” and “destruction.” I believe that that the danger of the Christian seeking material acquisitions is self-explanatory.

for the love of money (a fond love) is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after( to stretch out after to grasp) they have erred from the faith ( to be led astray from the truth and into idolatry), and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (grief, distress and pain.)

Greek:  For “a”(not “the”) root of all types of what is injurious, destructive and harmful is the fondness of money

The TDNT reference book has the following definitions for the “erring from the faith” that comes to some Christians who have a fondness for material gain.  Secular deceiving, leading into idolatry, or offending the will of the Lord, is some of them.

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

I simply love the word “flee”! Our English word for fugitive comes from this word. Several dictionary definitions such as a runaway, a person who is fleeing, or someone who takes to flight describes the fugitive.  My friends, we must be fugitives from the love of selfish material gain.

Likewise, I love the word “follow after”, which is none else than the word for persecute!

My friends, we must be fugitives from the love money and persecute instead righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness!

Righteousness:  The visible and righteous exhibitions of the works of the invisible God through our lives.  Likewise, righteousness is also the outward results of the grace or labor that the Lord performs within us. We must be “living molds” of the image of the Lord Jesus Christ, the outcome of the super human labor of the revealed Christ, and not the bondage brought through our own efforts by the works of the law.  Persecute this!

Godliness A life that is entirely pleasing to God. Persecute this!

Faith Living by “the faith of God” which is found in His rhema word, as we restrict our lives to the voice of the Spirit.  Persecute this!

Love Unconditional, sacrificial love, for our neighbor and brethren.  Persecute this!

Patience: Loving endurance with the quirks and hang-ups of others.  Persecute this!

Meekness This is the conclusive mark of the “love slave” of God!  It is the yielding up of all of our rights to the Lord.  Persecute this!

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Greek: Athletically agonize in the beautifully athletic conflict of faith.

Grasp and make for your own eternal life now on earth.

In which you have confessed a beautiful confession. (Confession is the reality of what lies inside of us as expressed outwardly through an honest mouth.  A beautiful confession can only come forth from a beautiful life.)

That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Greek   Guard, and watch over carefully, to fully do, the commandment without blemish, free from vice, and with nothing that the devil or man can take a hold of, or point an accusatory finger at.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy

Nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God,   “Nor to hope in the riches of uncertainty.”

Who giveth us richly all things to enjoy   Who supplies us richly from His own resources.

That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

Ready to distribute   Always ready to impart with openhanded liberality.

Willing to communicate   The TDNT defines this rare New Testament word as “belonging or appointed to     society” or “gladly giving others a share.”

“Willing to communicate” comes from the word for fellowship, which is to “have in common.”

Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Greek:  Treasuring up for themselves a beautiful foundation into the future so that they may be free in the present time to grasp and make their own eternal life.

2 Corinthians 9:6  But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Greek: “He that soweth upon a blessing shall reap upon a blessing.”

What the apostle Paul has in mind when he tells us to sow bountifully is that our sowing must be of such quality and in such quantity that it will reach to produce a real blessing upon someone else.  Such a man or woman will reap a blessing back from the Lord.  Mother Teresa said, “We must love until it hurts.”

The Word of God

I Tim 1:3  As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

Doctrine that deviates from the truth because its essence, quality, and measure comes from another source, which is not founded on the words that make up the gospel.

2 Timothy 1:13  Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

(Greek: Hold fast to the model of healthy or wholesome words, which thou hast heard from me.

Many of us can remember building a model car or airplane. Once we had the model built we mounted it up high on a shelf for all to see.  We must likewise have the Word of God as one of the primary models in our lives mounted high before our eyes. This model of the gospel must be built out of something that is called sound words.

“Sound words” is a medical term that means healthy or wholesome. Sound words are healthy because they are true or are in accordance with what is factual about the Word of God.

It is impossible for us to build a model of healthy words that we can frame before our eyes to unless we know the Word of God in truth or in accordance to fact. To know the Word of God in fact implies that we must do some serious study of the Word before we can truly know it in truth.

Titus 2:7  In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

Incorruptness: Our knowledge of the Word of God must be so thorough that our teaching cannot be subject to the decay of time, error, or the opposition that comes from those that challenge our teaching.  When we live in accordance to a model of God’s incorrupt doctrine, our doctrine will finally vindicate us even if the wide world says that we are wrong. The Lord will lift us up and put those that oppose us to shame.

Incorruptness must stand the test of eternity in that an incorrupt nature cannot be subject to decay. Our knowledge and obedience to the Word of God will have an everlasting impact on our lives.  Let us look at the following scripture;

Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Inspiration: All scripture is God breathed and is therefore profitable for teaching

Reproof:  Intimate knowledge of the scriptures brings correction to us by exposing sin and blind spots in our life. If we heed to the exposure brought to us through the Word it will brings us freedom in Christ.

Correction : Correction here means to be restored to an upright state resulting in salvation.  Do you notice the order?  Reproof brings exposure of sin.  If we heed we start to become free. As we become free the Word of God then starts to restore us to an upright state

Instruction:  This talks about mentoring and discipling and the final release into our ministry. Exposure, restoration, mentoring, and call to ministry.

That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Greek: The man or woman of God becomes thoroughly equipped and furnished by the Word of God for every Spirit led work; The man or woman of God is equipped and fitted with every necessary piece of equipment by the Word of God for anything that the Lord might have for him or her need to do.

When we went to battle Sadam Hussein in the Persian Gulf in great part we won because we were thoroughly equipped with the best of arms, technique, and personnel.  It is our deep knowledge of God’s Word that furnishes us with the spiritual equipment necessary to successfully carry out God’s holy missions.

1Tim2:4  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto(INTO) the knowledge (EPIGNOSIN) of the truth.

Philemon 1:6  That the communication (fellowship) of thy faith may become effectual (ENERGES) by the acknowledging (FULL KNOWLEDGE) of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

John 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Jesus is telling us, is the truth shall free us in the exact proportion to the correct understanding and performance that we have of it. Our misunderstanding of scriptures through error, a lack of meditation or study, or because we have turned them into a “doctrine of men” will not free us.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Greek: In the beginning was the logos, and the logos was in fellowship and communion with God, and God was the logos.

With God: Not that Jesus was with God as one who was next or along Him, but as one that is with God because He lives in continual fellowship and communion with Him.

The word was God. More correctly, “God was the logos”.  Jesus, as God the Son, is first found in an eternal and continual communion with God the Father, so He can then come to mankind as the logos word, which translated and interpreted to us the conceptuality of the Father.

John 1:2  The same was in the beginning with God.

This one was from all eternity is in constant communion and fellowship with God. (John repeats the theme of verse one to emphasize the complete sufficiency of Jesus to assume the role of  “God, the logos word” to humanity.

The word of God is comprised of the logos and the rhema word.  Both are essential in furnishing us with the fullness of God’s knowledge and will, both as individual believers and corporately in our churches.  The logos word defines God in general concepts and ideas to give us the “big picture” of who God is.

The rhema word is a moment-to-moment part of the logos word uttered by the voice of God’s Spirit and “tailored made” to equip us with God’s commands, guidance, and the fulfillment of our needs in accordance to our specific circumstances.

John 1:1  In the beginning was the LOGOS (word), and the LOGOS(word) was with God, and the LOGOS(word) was God.

Matthew 4:4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every RHEMA that proceedeth( from moment to moment) out of the mouth of God.

The Cross (God’s Surgical Instrument That Make Him Visible)

1 Corinthians 1:23  But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

We preach Christ as being crucified: One of the gifts inside of Christ

The law of the cross is energized through obedience

2 Cor 4:10  Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

11For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

Gal 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ( submerged into the domain, sphere, or world of Christ’s influence and sovereignty ) have put on Christ (now wear Christ, whom as clothes which totally cover us, influences and affects back through us to conform us into His image.)

John 12:49  For I have not spoken of myself ( LOCATION: (Jesus is located within, or submerged into the Father) I absolutely have not uttered anything from my independent and exclusive self); but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment (The instrumentality of the Father working back through Jesus), what I should say, and what I should speak. (So permeated Jesus the Father, as to give to Him both the utterances and expressions of speech, and the content of the speech carried by them)

John 8;28  Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he ( I am) , and that I do nothing of myself (and that from my independent and exclusive self I do nothing); but as my Father hath taught me( but as the Father has instrumentally penetrated, affected, and influenced me) I speak these things (these things I utter and express prophetically, by that divine influence which has permeated me.)

Mat 10;19  But when they deliver you up, take no thought ( don’t try to figure out or speculate) how or what ye shall speak (how the expressions and utterances of prophetic speech will come out, or what their content will be): for it shall be given you in that same hour( in the very moment that you need it) what ye shall speak.(what you shall speak prophetically)

for it is not ye that speak (For it is absolutely not you expressing and uttering forth out by your own strength) , but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in (instrumental BY) you.(But the Spirit of your Father expressing Himself back through you)

1 Cor 12:3  Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by(both the domain, location, and sphere, of the world of Christ and the instrumentality or influence of its working back through us) the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

2 Cor 13:3  Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me,(Location; domain, sphere) which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you (Instrumentality: The greatest display of Christ’s power and prophetical speech as He is located within us, is in His ministry through us to others.)

Mat 8:8  The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only  By a word, or by the instrumentality of a word.  The word itself healed the servant), and my servant shall be healed.

Herein we see the power of the world of the Spirit.  The Greek tells us, “speak by a logos word,” not the logos word, but “a” logos word, making it into a specific word with a content of healing, or a rhema word.

“By” a logos word” tells us that it is the word itself influencing and affecting the situation, causes the healing.  Jesus did not heal the servant.  The rhema word of God working through Jesus is the one, which healed.  Jesus’ life was so submerged in the Spirit of God, that He lived in the domain of supernatural faith found within this world.  Secondly, He lived in the world in which all is new and reconciled to God, and all is available.  The faith released through Him inside the word that He spoke, caused the word itself to heal the servant.

Hebrews 4:2  For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith ( The word “mixed” is defined as the beating, melting, or tempering together of equal measures of two alloys, the rhema word and faith, to create the element termed as the power of God) in them that heard it

Matthew 8:16  When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word (By the instrumentality of the word; Jesus did not cast out the devils, but the word of God operating in Him), and healed all that were sick:

Luke 4:32  And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with (Instrumental)  power.(His word had the “instrumentality of authority”; The word itself, in the domain of the Spirit, exercises God’s jurisdiction over the works of the enemy in the same way that a state trooper exercises jurisdiction over the interstate highways.

Luke 7:7  Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word( By a word or by the instrumentality of a word. The word itself healed the servant), and my servant shall be healed.

Luke 11:20  But if I with the finger of God(By the instrumentality of the Spirit; Jesus did not cast out the devils. The rhema word originated in the Spirit and operating through Jesus, cast out the devil) cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.

Doing Nothing From Myself

John 7:17  If any man will do his will( If any one out of His own will desires to do God’s will) he shall know of the doctrine( Instrumental: teaching), whether it be of God, or whether I speak of ( from the edge of; the idea of separation or departure from) myself.( exclusively and independently from myself as a source and from none other.)

Jesus never did or spoke anything, which originated from Himself. Everything He did, originated from the Father, and was revealed to Jesus through the Holy Spirit.  Secondly, Jesus never did anything that was exclusively His ideas, agenda or timetable.  Everything, which he planned and carried out, was inclusive of what the Father desired.  Finally every action, which He took, and every word, which He spoke, was in dependency to the workings of the Holy Spirit within Him.  The Lord Jesus never acted independently from the Father.

This was the key to the Lord’s supernatural faith and miracle working power. The fact that while on the earth, the Lord lived dependent, inclusive, and originated everything with the Father, shows us the depth of Jesus life in the world of the Holy Spirit.

This is what Jesus means when he tells us that He does nothing from Himself.

To the degree that we do not seek ourselves as the ones from whom anything originates, and then carry it out independently and exclusively from God, will automatically live in the teaching of the Father.

He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

They that speak independently, selfishly, and exclusive, of the Spirit of God, seeks their own glory…(but they which from the world of the Spirit, allowing for the Spirit to permeate and work back through them, will be seeking the glory of God, and will speak ecstatically, prophetically, and under divine impulse, as oracles of God that will bring forth His glory.)

John 8;28  Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he ( I am) , and that I do nothing of myself (and that I do nothing independently and exclusively from the Father); but as my Father hath taught me( but as the Father has instrumentally penetrated, affected, and influenced me) I speak these things (these things I utter, express, and speak prophetically, by that divine influence which has permeated me.)

John 12:49  For I have not spoken of myself ( LOCATION: (Jesus is located within, or submerged into the Father) I absolutely have not uttered anything independently and exclusively from the Father); but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment (The instrumentality of the Father working back through Jesus), what I should say, and what I should speak. (So permeated Him the Father as to give Him both the utterances and expressions of speech, and the contents of them)

John 6:28  Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29  Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God (The Father works His works back through the disciples, as He affects and influences them in proportion to how much he or she submerges into the world of the Spirit.), that ye believe on him (Greek “INTO”; location, domain, submerging into) whom he hath sent.

John 8:38  I speak  (INSTRUMENTALITY: to utter and express prophetically (not the content of the speech)) that which I (What I) have seen ( To see with a spiritual discernment which causes me to understand) with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

John 3:11  Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know (We utter prophetically what we know instinctively in the Spirit in one moments time, and not as needing the acquisition of knowledge in the continuum of time), and testify ( but bear acquired knowledge as with a prophetic vision) that we have seen (only when we see with discernment and understanding); and ye receive not our witness.

Simple prophecy does not need our understanding, but an instinctive knowing in our spirits of what the Father is doing.

However, in order to bear witness, as in seeing and explaining a detailed prophetic vision (in a sequence of pictures or details), we need to see in the Spirit with discernment and not just as a simple glancing.

Hearing the voice of the Spirit allows us to administer the kingdom step by step along the “continuum in time” of what we are hearing.

John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father, which hath sent me.

“Judging”, in the verse above is the administration of God’s kingdom in the Spirit.

Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion(Greek “corresponding to the word) of faith;(belonging to faith)

Prophecy is faith in one of its manifestation, this manifestation being in the “the word belonging to faith, or which is produced in the spirit as an expression of faith.

Faith, which produces a rhema word, is the FAITH OF GOD working in us.  The rhema word is a translation of God’s faith into a medium that we can discern, minister externally, and understand. When we minister the rhema word we are ministering the faith that God Himself has.

Prophecy is God’s faith in the verbal expression of His rhema word.  Therefore, prophecy is faith, and must be given by faith.

Prophecy therefore does not need our understanding, but a simple instinctive knowing of the “corresponding word” (proportion of faith), which God by His faith, or God’s faith, produced in us.

To the proportion that we hear or see the word is to the proportion that we prophesy.

The Natural versus the Spiritual Christian

As we begin tackling the issue of walking in the spirit it is vitally important that we understand that there are three types of people, and two types of believers.  There is the carnal, (sarkikos or fleshly) the natural,(psychikos; or psychological man: the man of the soul, or psyche) and the spiritual.(pneumatikos; or spiritual  man: the man of the spirit, air, or breath)  Believers are either natural or spiritual. God desires all of us to be “pneumatic Christians; discerning the breath of the Spirit of the living God.”  Unfortunately most of us function as natural people. Let us finish our study today by looking at the second chapter of first Corinthians.

1Cor 2:9  But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

But God hath revealed them( taking the lid off) unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth(sounds out) all things, yea, the deep things of God.

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

These verses explain to us that the only way for us to know instinctively the things of God is through our spirit.  God only knows how many times, and sadly enough, have we put wheels to God’s visions and plans upon the whims of our intellect and reasoning.  Now wonder our churches are so weak!

But the natural man(psychikos) ( receiveth(to welcome with open rams) not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (to investigate, examine and determine something so as to render a decision)

15  But he that is spiritual(pneumatikos) judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.

A New World System is Found in the Baptism of the Spirit

Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Newness-recently made, new in kind, quality, substance and essence.  It is unused, unworn, unprecedented, novel, and unheard of. This is not talking about age.

Romans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Newness-recently made, new in kind, quality, substance and essence.  It is unused, unworn, unprecedented, novel, and unheard of. This is not talking about age.

Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

This world system has been eternally crucified to us so that we can live in the world system of the Holy Spirit.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

Newness-recently made, new in kind, quality, substance and essence.  It is unused, unworn, unprecedented, novel, and unheard of. This is not talking about age.

And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

As many as march as a spiritual soldier by the rule of finding their newness of life in the world system of the Holy Spirit, shalom peace upon them, and mercy, on the Israel of God.

Titus 3: 5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Another birth, re-production, re-creation; the provision for reproduction in the world of the Holy Spirit is one that creates newness of life.

Newness-recently made, new in kind, quality, substance and essence.  It is unused, unworn, unprecedented, novel, and unheard of. This is not talking about age.

Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared (Perfect/ accusative) as a bride adorned(Perfect/ accusative)  for her husband.

And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Newness-recently made, new in kind, quality, substance and essence.  It is unused, unworn, unprecedented, novel, unheard of. This is not talking about age.

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in LOCATION, INSTRUMENTALITY) Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become (PERFECT TENSE; COMPLETION WITH ETERNAL IMPACT) new.

Newness-recently made, new in kind, quality, substance and essence.  It is unused, unworn, unprecedented, novel, unheard of. This is not talking about age.

I am convinced that if any believer commits him or herself to go deep enough into the world of the Spirit. They will experience healing from any and every disease or bondage, which is not related to the natural progression of age.   The deeper we live in the world of the Spirit, the more that we will enter a life that is diametrically opposed to the life here on earth.  It is the “spiritual Garden of Eden” new in kind, substance, essence, and quality; it the very life of heaven as opposed to the conditions here on earth.

1 Cor 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Recently born, young and youthful.  Not talking about newness in essence, substance, kind or type.

Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Sincerity (Greek: “Judged by the rays of the sun”) A metamorphosis into the chronologically young and youthful spiritual man that will allow for a purity that allows for the sun’s rays to shine unhindered through the new man.

Truth What is correct and precise about God

A New Man Must be Created Who Can Function in the New World System of the Spirit

The essentials of a complete metamorphosis into the new man.

Mark 9:2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured (absolute metamorphosis) before them.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed (METAMORPHOSIS) by the renewing (OVERHAULING) of your mind, (THE MIND AS THE “NOUS”) that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Total overhaul of the mind into a new kind of mind in essence, type, substance and kind.  An intellect and understanding adapted to the world of the Holy Spirit. The new mind will metamorphosise the new man.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed(absolute metamorphosis)  into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Eph 4: 22 That ye put off (AORIST MIDDLE TENSE- THE PROCESS OF PUTTING OFF UNTIL THE OLD MAN IS COMPLETELY PUT OFF; THE DEGREE THAT THE OLD MAN IS PUT OFF IS OUR SPIRITUAL RESPONSIBILITY; NOT THE LORD’S) concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

Continuing corruption that is lessened or increased in proportion to the lusts produced by what is deceitful.

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; (THE MIND AS THE “NOUS”)

Overhauling of the mind in age and youthfulness.  This is not talking about a new essence, substance

The overhauling of the mind in age and youthfulness will metamorphosise the new man who is new in essence, type, kind and substance.

And have put on ((AORIST MIDDLE TENSE- THE PROCESS OF PUTTING ON UNTIL THE NEW MAN IS COMPLETELY PUT ON; THE DEGREE THAT THE NEW MAN IS PUT ON IS IN PROPORTION TO OUR SPIRITUAL LABOR, NOT THE LORD’S) the new (in age and youthfulness) man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:  (THE FULL AND PRECISE AND ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE OF the recently made and new kind of, unused, unprecedented, novel, and unheard of life THAT WILL PRODUCE THE IMAGE OF CHRIST…)

The overhauling of the mind in substance, type, essence and kind will metamorphosise the new man who is new in youth and age,

Eph3: 16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;

To be strengthened in dominion so that the dominion will create the image of Christ in His glory within you. The proportion that we enter into the world of the Spirit is the proportion of Christ glory.

Romans 8:21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Into the freedom procured by the glory, or belonging to the glory

The Deliverance from Reasoning, and Doubts into the Belief of the Miraculous

Mat 16:7 And they reasoned (Doubt: Thoroughly trying to figure out) among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.

Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?

Mark 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning(Doubt: Thoroughly trying to figure out)  in their hearts,

Luke 5:22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye (Doubt: Thoroughly trying to figure out) in your hearts?

Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

What Type of Authority Do You Have?

Matt 28: 18 Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All (EVERY TYPE OF) authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:18 that every type or sort of authority specific to all circumstances in heaven and earth has been given to Him. Because He lives in the Christian, he or she likewise, has every type of authority to be used in different conditions in heaven or earth.

The catch is that it is only exercised in accordance to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

The following scriptures tell us that as Jesus ministered, He knew what type, sort or nature of the different types of authority available in Him He would use. If He was to heal, He focused on using the authority that was specific to healing. If He was performing miracles, He used the authority specific to performing miracles.

Likewise, we need to minister in the authority particular and specific to the situation at hand. We already have every sort of authority in us. Now we need to narrow it down to the situation at hand.

Mt 21:23  And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what ( type, sort, nature,  species  or description of ) authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority ?

Mt 21:24  And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in likewise will tell you by what ( type, sort, nature,  species  or description of ) authority  I do these things.

Mt 21:27  And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what (type, sort, nature, species or description of) authority I do these things.

Mr 11:28  And say unto him, By what ( type, sort, nature,  species  or description of)  authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority <1849> to do these things?

Mr 11:29  And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what ( type, sort, nature,  species  or description of )  authority  I do these things.

Mr 11:33  And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what (type, sort, nature,  species  or description of ) authority <1849> I do these things.

Lu 20:2  And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what ( type, sort, nature,  species  or description of ) authority  doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority <1849>?

Lu 20:8  And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what  ( type, sort, nature,  species  or description of ) authority I do these things.

The Renewed Mind of the Apostle Paul

I Tim 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

·         Secondly is our conscience.  Watchman Nee tells us that the conscience is a component of or a barometer of the voice of the Holy Spirit.  Let us look at what the apostle Paul has to tell us about the conscience.

Romans 2:15  Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;

 ·        Greek: Their consciences also bearing witness with their hearts, and between one another (in their conscience) their collective thoughts constantly accusing or defending. (Seems like the operation of the voice of the Holy Spirit!)

Romans 9:1  I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

 ·        My conscience bears witness to me in the realm or world that belongs to the Holy Spirit. (My conscience operates within the world that belongs to the Holy Spirit.)

2 Corinthians 1:12  For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

 ·        We use the testimony (of accusing or defending) that our conscience gives to conduct ourselves in this world.

 2 Timothy 1:3  I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

·        I thank God whom I render religious service to…in a world that belongs to a pure conscience.

I Tim 1:5  Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

 ·         Third and finally, “faith unfeigned” has to do with having an authentic walk with the Lord.  In other words is it mean to “walk the talk.”

1Tim 1:6 From which some having swerved (have deviated from to miss the bull’s eye) have turned aside unto (into) vain jangling(fruitless talk)

·        The result of turning away from a genuine Spirit led walk of absolute purity.

7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

 ·        They not know what they say, or what is the reality concerning the things that they speak with so much confidence about.  They are confident in their errors.  My friends, this is the definition of being deceived!

·10    According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

Greek: According to the gospel of the glory of the happy God…

·        As I always teach, the glory of God is to make the invisible God, visible, to a lost and dying world. Church and ministry can never be about agendas, programs or the likes, but must always aim to make the invisible God visible through them.

11     And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

Greek: I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who endued me with His power (only as He found me dependable.) The gift of His power was given to me as He found me worthy of trust. Once that the trust and power were there God placed me into my ministry.

·        We must never seek ministry on our own.  We must never seek to raise ourselves up. We only need to seek to be faithful and obedient to the Lord.

·        Our obedience develops the character of the Lord and allows us to become partakers of His liberty. The Lord entrusts us with His power as He sees that our godly character is being developed to the point that we will not abuse it or be puffed up by it. There comes a day when the Lord sees that we have enough of His character, liberty, and power to be placed into His calling for us. He then raises us up.

·        God’s ministry must always be executed in His power.  If we know little about God’s power we have no business being in ministry until His power is developed in us.

14  and the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Greek: And the grace of our Lord super abounded along with the faith and love, which reside inside Christ Jesus.

·        Verse fourteen is the result of Paul being placed into the ministry which he spoke about in verse twelve. As we have discussed before, the grace of God is the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ laboring within us, and accomplishing all in us. Christianity can be defined wonderfully in one single verse, as first taught to me by Watchman Nee.

Philippians 2:12  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

·        The Lord “works in” you by His grace. Every work of grace is translated into a rhema word.  Every time we obey His rhema word we have “worked out.”  That is Christianity!

·        Every time the Lord works in His rhema word, it carries His measure of faith and power for us to work it out.   This is grace.

·        When we work out   without receiving the rhema word we fall away from grace.  This is the law.

Galatians 5:4  Christ is become of no effect (useless, broken down and non-operational) unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

 ·        Another way of seeing the grace of God can be found in the following verse.

Colossians 2:6  As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk (conduct your lives) ye in him:

·        The areas of our lives in which Christ has been revealed in us, to labor on our behalf and give   us freedom, is the same areas that we are responsible to walk in and maintain our freedom and victory. A believer cannot quit smoking unless Christ has spotted that area, then revealed Himself to the believer in order to labor and set him or her free by His grace. Once the freedom has come through the superhuman labor of the Lord then the Christian has the responsibility not to fall back into the bondage of smoking but to conduct his or her life in the freedom of Christ

 I tim 1:18 This charge (as military orders) I commit (I entrust to you as a valuable deposit) unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

·        In accordance with the words of prophecy or in the sphere of God’s power found within them, you are to war to ultimate success (God’s) military campaigns and expeditions.

·        This is Paul’s definition of “faith unfeigned”.

·        It makes us wonder how the Lord’s battles can be successfully carried out if the prophet and prophecies are not welcomed with open arms in our churches and ministries today?

19  Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away(repudiate and reject)concerning faith have made shipwreck:

·        Verse nineteen are the requirements for the soldier of the Lord as depicted in verse eighteen, if he or she are to carry out successfully the Lord’s military campaigns to utter completion.

·        Everything must be done by the faith of God, which is always resident within the voice of His Holy Spirit.

·        A good conscience is a barometer of the voice of the Holy Spirit.  It is good because the voice of the Holy Spirit within it bears constant witness that the believer is restricting his or her life to the voice of God within the conscience.

·        Those believers that thrust away, repudiate and reject the walk of faith , which administers God’s affairs, as well as the voice of the Holy Spirit within the conscience become like a ship that wrecks and destroys itself.

·        Finally the person that rejects God and considers Him as worthless becomes Romans one and twenty eight.

Romans 1:28  And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

  • Greek (paraphrase): Because they did not like to acknowledge God in their thinking as someone that is more precious and valuable than the finest of metals after having an opportunity to do so, God decreed their thinking as failing the test given to a fine metal, rendering their thinking unfit, and worthy only to be rejected and cast away to do those things which are unbecoming.

 1 Tim 4:2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

·        There comes a point when the person reject God long enough to have their conscience becomes cauterized, numbing its spiritual senses, removing the discernment of God’s voice, and losing the personal consciousness of what is right and what is wrong.  Hence all the aberrant form of human behaviors found today.

2 Thess 2:11  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

·        Go will send them an energizing work of error so that they believe what is false.

1 Tim 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly (“speaking plainly”; probably through the mouths of prophets), that in the latter times( not specific times) some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

  •  Shall depart- The word is to “apostatize.”
  • Seducing spirits.  The same word for that of “error.”  The word for error in scriptures is from where our word “planet” comes.  A planet is defined as a “wonderer”, and error means to wonder from the truth.
  • Doctrines of devils are promoted through teachers that have fallen into error wondering from the truth through their own sins and the influence of demons.  Please observe Paul’s order. Seducing spirits, which cause to wander, allow us to pay heed to doctrines of devils.

         2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

·        Speaking lies in hypocrisy; should read – Through the hypocrisy of those that speak lies.

·        Conscience seared with a hot iron; should read- Branded in their conscience.

·        Let us look at the progression of deception;

·        When Christians do not know and live by the truth of the gospel that is molded as a pattern of “sound words” (healthy words) they will pay heed to doctrines of devils.

·        We are brought to believe the doctrines of devils when seducing spirits, which cause the believer to wander from the truth or fall into error, deceive us.

·      These doctrines are brought about through the hypocrisy of teachers that speak lies.  These teachers can so comfortably bring these lies because their consciences have been cauterized through their disobedience to God, so that they can no longer discern right from wrong.

Rom 1:18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold(suppress) the truth in unrighteousness;

·        The wrath of God is constantly revealed upon all the ungodliness and unrighteousness of men and women who hold down or suppress the truth of God in the realm of unrighteousness.

·        Unrighteous living automatically holds back, down, or suppresses the truth concerning God. With every act of unrighteousness there is an automatic suppression of truth.  As believers we must be very carefully not to willfully disobey. Every willful act of disobedience on our part suppresses God’s truth to the same measure as that of our disobedience.

Ephesians 2:2  Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh(that is energized or activated) in the children of disobedience(that will not be persuaded to obey God)

·        There are believers that draw a line in the spiritual sand to the Lord and will not be persuaded to go further with Him. Christians that conduct their lives in such a way become “children of disobedience.”

·        Every willful act of disobedience activates or energizes the working of the devil.

Rom 1:19  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

·         Greek: All that humanity can know about God right now is at our disposal because God already made sure that it is all manifested, and prepared for us. (There is no excuse for the existence of agnostics and atheists!

20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse

·        Greek: The things that cannot be seen of Him from the creation of the world are perceived clearly, and are likewise thoroughly seen and understood, by the things that God made…. so that they are defenseless (in their agnosticism and atheism)

21  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

·        Greek: Having known God, they absolutely refused to glorify Him as God or were thankful to Him.  The end result of pushing God away is that their reflections and reasonings about life became futile and pointless, allowing them to fall into deception and make wrong decisions. The end result is that their heart, now void of understanding, became darkened.

22  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

·        Greek- Professing to be wise, they became morons.

23  And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

·        Greek:  And exchanged the glory of the undecaying and sinless God for the likeness of the image of decaying and sinful….

24  Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

·        Greek:  Wherefore God handed them over by the cravings and lusts of their hearts into uncleanness so that they would dishonor their own bodies between themselves.

25  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

·         Greek: Who exchanged the truth about God for falsehood, thus religiously reverencing and serving the created thing more than Him who created it.

28  And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

·        Greek:  In regards to things of this life that these people make it their goal to have an accurate and full knowledge about, they found God to have failed their test and not worthy of holding the place of one these things. Therefore God handed them over to a rejected mind, which failed His test, to now do these inappropriate and unfitting things.

1 Tim 4: 6  If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

 ·        Being continuously fed on the words, which are made up of faith and find their expression and life by a walk of faith.

·         Also the “words of faith and of good teaching” are the words, which are in accordance with God’s truth and through which the gospel finds its expression and life. This is our defense against seducing spirits and doctrines of devils.

·        Whereunto thou hast attained   Should read, “which you have closely followed.”

1Tim4:7  But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

·        Exercise thyself; Comes from the word for gymnastic which in turn comes from the word gymnos, which is defined as “being naked.”

·         The practice in the days of Paul was for athletes to exercise almost naked so as to be unhindered as possible for vigorous training.

·        Godliness is our manner of life, which makes us pleasing unto God. For us to attain to all that the Lord has for us, we must vigorously train in His will, spiritually naked, as to be untangled from distractions, idols, and worldly affairs.

1 Timothy 6:19  Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

 ·        There is big difference between getting saved, going to church and performing religious activities versus that of “laying a hold on eternal life.” To lay hold on, is to grab on to, pull in, and make it our own possession   The Lord is never satisfied with our simple conversion and even our faithful attendance in church.  He wants us to experience as much of the fullness of eternal life as possible while in our earthly tent, which is to know God through the fullness of the revelation of His Son within our lives.

John 17:3  And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

1 Tim 4:8  For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

·        Literally: “For a little (useful in a few things) is bodily exercise profitable”.  Exercising in godliness is useful for everything because it has an eternal impact on the next life and this one.

10  For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

·        Of the three Greek versions that are used in our English translations the Byzantine and Textus Receptus say “labor and suffer reproach” while the Wescott Hort says “labor and struggle”.

·        Our word for struggle is “to  agonize.”  This is the same word that our New Testament uses for the agonizing efforts exerted in athletic competition.

·         Labor always implies painful toil with wearisome effort, which sometimes ends up in exhaustion.  The bottom line is that in any great work done for the Lord, or with any believer that desires to be greatly used of the Lord, he or she must become aware that this dual satisfaction can only be attained through wearisome spiritual labor and an exhilarating agony in following the Lord comparable to those exerted by Olympic athletes.

·        One of the greatest onslaughts that Christians face in Western societies is that of complacency, comfort, and prosperity.  These three things many times oppose and wage war against the spiritual toil and athletic struggle, which makes Christians into great men and women of God.  Christianity in western societies in great part tends to be mediocre at best.

·        Godliness likewise is only developed in the confines of a spiritual gymnasium.

Some Athletic Agonizing(s) in the NT

Luke 13:24  Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

1 Corinthians 9:25  And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

Colossians 1:29  Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

Colossians 4:12  Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

1Tim 4:11 These things command and teach.

·        These things transmit to others and teach.

12     Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

·        Despise –To think down

·        Example- This comes from the word that means to “strike a blow which leaves a mark.”

·         Paul here commands us to become believers who can leave a mark for other Christians to follow. God desires every one of us to live in such a way that we become a pattern for, or create a mold that others can imitate.

·        Word – Different things can be inferred from this.

The words that come out of our mouths must be wholesome to the building up of others.

§        As Moses was mighty in “word and deed,” we must learn to hear, operate by, and restrict our lives to the rhema word of God.

§        Our doctrine and teaching must follow the healthy words, which make up the gospel, and our life must conform to that doctrine.

Conversation – Behavior

Charity- Divine, self-sacrificial love.

§        Spirit – Some translations omit “spirit” in this verse.

§        Faith – Restrict our lives to the voice of the Lord, which is the faith of God.

§        Purity -This word in reality means “sinlessness”.  It talks not only about purity in our actions but also in our motives. We realize that it is humanly impossible to be sinless in this life, but our goal should always be to attain this as we labor and athletically strive in the Lord’s calling.

14  Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

§        Greek: Do not become careless about the spiritual gift, which was given to you by (the Holy Spirit) through prophecy and the laying of hands.

15  Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

§        Meditate- Care for, attend to, and keep practicing “the things that we have discussed”

§        Give thyself wholly to them – Literally “to become one with them”.

§        Paul tell us throw ourselves fully, or become submerged and consumed with the things that lead to godliness, purity, charity, spiritual gifts, and so forth.

§        That thy profiting   Literally “pioneers cutting a way for an army”

§        Every Christian is called to a blaze a new pioneer trail, through which the Lord can effectively travel, in accordance with their unique calling. There are now pew sitters, and no room for mediocrity in God’s kingdom.

§        May appear to all  – Will become evident to all.

16  Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

§        Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine: Fasten your attentions to, observe, and attend to yourself first, and to your doctrine second. This doctrine is what you teach. It must be in accordance with the truth of the scriptures and your life must line up with it.

§        Continue in them – Be sure to remain in these things!

Earth Sciences and the Glory of God

I stipulate that matter has five states rather than four. Solids, liquids, gases, plasma, and the rhema word.

Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the rhema word of God, so that things ( made from matter) which are seen were not made of things ( made from matter) which do appear.

  • The rhema word transports the matter of God’s invisible kingdom to earth. The matter which makes up God’s kingdom is always superior than the matter that makes up the natural and seen world. By faith, the rhema word materializes the matter of God’s kingdom so that it might be seen.

Although mass must be distinguished from matter in physics, because matter is a poorly-defined concept, and although all types of agreed-upon matter exhibit mass, it is also the case that many types of energy which are not matter—such as potential energy, kinetic energy, and trapped electromagnetic (photons)—also exhibit mass. Wikipedia.

  • Energy has mass, or interchangeably, weight.  This is why God says that His glory has weight.
  • In a ministry situation, by faith, we realize that the mass and weight of God’s glory is greater than the mass of the object that we are ministering to.

Electromagnetic radiation carries energy and momentum that may be imparted to matter with which it interacts. Wikipedia

  • Therefore, Glory radiation carries energy and momentum that may be imparted to matter with which it interacts, and will indelibly, transform the earthly matter to line up with matter of God’s invisible kingdom.  All happens by faith.
  • Glory is the radiation emitted by, and what makes visible, the invisible objects in God’s  kingdom.  As photon is the light particle of the visible kingdom, glory, is the light particle of the invisible kingdom.

In physics and chemistry, matter exhibits both wave-like and particle-like properties, the so-called wave–particle duality. Wikipedia.

  • Because matter exhibits both particle and wave like attributes, the glory of God can manipulate, especially the wave like properties of the physical object that it touches.

According to Maxwell’s equations, a moving electric field causes the magnetic field to change over time.  Wikipedia

  • A moving glory field causes the magnetic field to change over time. The glory field will cause the magnetic field in any physical object to change and line up to the rhema word of God. With the change in the magnetic field, comes the change in matter.
