How To Have A Great Marriage !

My wife Mary and I will celebrate 27th year of marriage in 2015.

We have had a problem free marriage. By that I mean, no unresolved issues have ever lingered.

We have never gone to sleep with unsettled problems

We have never had an argument that was not fixed that day.

Are we special? Of course not!

Am I perfect? Just ask my children!

The key to success is putting God and His will always first.

Mary and I met in 1986 in church, after her return from the mission fields.

We discovered that God had crossed our tracks several times.

Our paths intersected at North Miami Beach Elementary School in 1962.

I attended there after leaving Cuba.

At the school I learned English during the Cuban missile crisis and practiced ducking under desks in case it became real.

Right after leaving North Beach, little Mary also attended.

In 1977, my family moved from the Virgin Islands, to Key Biscayne, Florida.

My parents got a rental on Island Drive.

I discovered that Mary’s family left Island Drive, just before our arrival. Is this coincidence or divine destiny? I believe the latter, from a God who knows beginning to end.

If you are single, and love the Lord, be encouraged today!

God has that perfect one for you, like he had for me.

It’s much better to be single who loves Jesus, than to be married, love Jesus, but be married to a guy who hates him.

I have frequently observed single Christian women who love Jesus are happier than married Christian women who love Jesus, because their unbelieving husbands pull them down.

Enjoy your singlehood, loving and serving Jesus. Trust me, you are much better off. Fret not; God has that perfect one for you. Wait for him. Don’t focus on marriage, focus on Him.

I understand the loneliness of Christian singlehood. My advice is that you become married to Jesus. Draw close to and become filled with His Spirit. Most of your loneliness will leave.

God brought Mary, when I was contented to be single, even if it was to be so for the rest of my life. I was enthralled and in love with Jesus. I had forgotten about marriage, when my sweet Mary came.

I recommend, not to date, but wait for God’s one to come. I have seen many a good Christian fall into the pit of immorality. The flesh is weak, and God knows that. The problem with falling into immorality is that the devil’s condemnation last for months and severely injures the Christian’s walk.

Mary and I became great friends but presumed that God had destined us for others.

On the same day that I passed my FCC broadcasting test which I had failed twice, God opened our eyes. This was 1987. Now we knew that God was calling us to marriage. God knows how to open doors, and keep them shut. When you are in His will, He can move with blazing speed.

After three dates, we knew the calling to marriage and obeyed. Six months later we wed.   We were not in love when we married. We joined in obedience to God. The falling in love came after tying the knot.

From the beginning, Mary and I prayed together. Prayer is not simply talking to God. This prayer is about listening to God’s voice, His will, and then obeying.

We’ve learned the secret that in everything by doing the will of God and by laying ours down, things always turns out right.

We have done many crazy things in the Name of the Lord. But like cats which are constantly dropped from third floors, God makes us land on all fours.

God does not have two voices. He only has one . If a couple hears two things, something is wrong. This means that multiple agendas have not been surrendered to embrace God’s one. But this is the secret to a good marriage! Always, and in everything, couples lay down your will, and embrace God’s. He has one voice and one will. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all things that you wish for will be added to you.

Always put parents, children, and families, second, to God and His will. This sounds harsh, but it’s huge. I have seen many put fathers and mothers and children before God and His will, to destructive results. Family idolatry is one of the most damaging things in Christianity. If we put Him above all, He blesses our parents and children with the very best.

Mary and I are entirely honest with each other. We do not keep secrets. Good communication is critical. Talking things out and praying them through is crucial.

As a family, God taught us to be a team. We have endeavored to do as much as possible together. Our children come before ministry. We let them find their own way with the Lord. We don’t ask them to copy our Christian walk.

God is so great, if we always put Him first! You won’t go wrong.

My Fathers Day Message

This was my Father’s Day message delivered at my church a few years back.

Don’t try to mold your children into your image of a Christian.

Trust God and let Him mold them into what He wants for them.

A father must  forgive and  ask for forgiveness when wrong.

I have asked my kids to forgive me many times.

Your family is a team. Your family is your first ministry. God will not give you church ministries until you learn to minister to your family.

Communication is vital. Be transparent before your children.

Preach little and live your life before your family. Have a good time with them.

Support the dreams of your children. Be available for their special occasions.

Your children are not particularly called to follow our dreams.

Be a servant to your children.

Let your children know that God and His will, comes first.  The blessing upon a family is proportional to putting God first.

A father who puts his family above God’s will run into problems. This is when he makes his family an idol. This is a huge problem in the church

Put your family second after God, but always before job, church, and ministry.

Let your children know that even in their very worst sin you  love them, and will not reject them

It’s diabolic when family members cut each other off for any reason, including money or politics.

Welcome your kids to stay and live at home as long as they want to, even if it’s till marriage

Even when married let them know that this is their home.

If so, they will never seek a home somewhere else.

Let your kids know that you are their best friend. Children who know their parents to best friends will never look for wrong friends.

Let them share all things that they do, even the very worst and let them know that they will never be rejected. Then they will not keep secrets from you or do harmful  things in  wrong places.

If a child knows that they can come to you with anything and everything he won’t be tempted to do things in the company of evil men.

Pr 29:25  The fear of man bringeth a snare, but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

Be free from the fear of man but always fear God.

Not obeying God the first time is disobedience.

Be willing to lose your earthly reputation as a man pleaser. Become a fool for Christ.

Ga 1:10  For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet sought to please men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

A father is not a people please but a God pleaser.

A father is not politically correct but God correct. He is a world changer and a revivalist.

A father does not compromise the Word of God under any circumstance.

2Ti 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

A father is a student of the Word  and disciple of Jesus Christ. The lack of a foundation God’s word in the church is her greatest problem.

If your Bible studies are limited to a smart phone you will never be free.

A father is at the minimum a faithful  tither. He who does not tithe will run into financial problems.

Ac 1:24  And they prayed and said, “Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts ( the heart knower of all) of all men, show us which of these two Thou hast chosen,

A father is not religious but  a listener and knower of all hearts.

He must embrace and accept unconditionally.

He does not embrace the sin, but the sinner.

He loves unconditionally and accepts unconditionally. That is not  acceptance of the sin but of the person.

He is authentic, and is not scared to make mistakes for he knows that he will  correct them.

Jas 1:19   Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

A father is a good listener. He must learn to speak less than what he listens.

Ps 16:11 Thou wilt show me the path of life; in Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Transparency is  a sign of wholeness. Be real to yourself. Let people know you for who you are. A father is on his way to wholeness.

Nothing brings wholeness quicker than knowing the Word of God and spending time in God’s presence.

The opposite of pain is laughter and joy. The presence of Jesus is the pinnacle of laughter, pleasure and joy. There is point in Jesus where pain caused by sin and brokenness leaves. This should be the goals of fathers.

A father does not legislate Biblical morality to the sinner but draws people to Christ by demonstrating the Father’s love .

A father can deal with a variety of  people and demonstrate God’s love to them.

A father does not become easily offended. He rises above the offenses of others and never cuts off anyone because of sin.  Even when hurt by another he will not shut them out.  He will be there in the midst of his own hurt.

A father must focus on younger generations. There is a responsibility to pass the baton.

You and I will die. We must make disciples of those behind . This is part of the legacy of a father.

2Ti 4:2  preach the Word. Be instant in season and out of season. Reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

A father lovingly confronts, rebukes and reproves with all authority.

The love of God is not icky sweet and sugary.

God is looking for fathers who will be leaders.

I am sick of seeing men in  church whose wives have to lead  and pull them up by their bootstraps. This is demonic and is an attack on the family.

Every father should forge his own way with the Lord. Don’t be as follower. Blaze your own trail. Make a difference, leave a legacy.

You have something great to give. Don’t copy somebody else’s message.

Php 3:12  It is not as though I had already attained it, nor were already perfect; but I follow after, that I may sieze hold of that for which Christ Jesus also seized hold of me.

Eph 5:16  Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Be a doer. Don’t waste time. Redeem the time because the days are evil.

What Is The Greatest Betrayal?

2 Cor 4:1  Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not.

“Because by the mercy of God, we were called into ministry, we do not become discouraged.”

My commentary on this verse:  “We know that if God divinely called us into ministry, He will take care of us, and see us through every difficulty; therefore we do not lose heart.”

2   But have renounced (we gave up once, and now forbid) the hidden things of dishonesty (anything that brings shame or disgrace to the gospel, or to us), not walking in craftiness ( not conducting ourselves in corrupt things), nor handling the word of God deceitfully (by dishonesty, adulterating or corrupting God’s word  for personal for benefit) ; but by manifestation of the truth (but by manifesting the gospel in its accuracy and genuineness through the Word of God and our lives) commending ourselves to every man’s conscience ( we yield ourselves to  the scrutiny of every type of man’s conscience) in the sight of God. (Before the constant gaze of God)

Man’s conscience is a component of the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Every man, whether he believes in Jesus Christ or not, has the ability to hear God because of his conscience.

Everyone knows when does right or not by the voice of God in their conscience.

Paul states in the verses above that the Christian’s character must be such that it can  hold up to the scrutiny of every type of global conscience.

People observe Christians, more than what Christians think.

People secretly hope that they see the real deal.

Everyone is looking for the real deal, a real hope, something to bank their lives upon.

Whether a person believes or not in Jesus, their conscience  instinctively know if the Christian “walks the talk” or whether he is a fake.

Non-Christians can  pick up on the TV preacher who extorts money.

But no one had a problem with Mother Theresa!

Everyone knows that she was the real deal. Her character held up to the scrutiny of every type of global conscience.

Finally, in the verses above,  the Christian must deal with the scrutiny of God Himself, whose penetrating look is ever upon him or her.

This is why Paul stressed the importance of a good conscience.

Ac 23:1 Then Paul, looking intently at the council, said, “Men, brothers, I have lived with all good conscience toward God until this day.”

1Ti 1:5  Now the goal of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,

1Ti 1:19  having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck,

My heart shudders for the politicians who have “sold their soul to the devil.”

They have betrayed their good conscience for money, votes, and power.

They smile  through whitened teeth, but a time of awful reckoning with God is coming.

2 Tim 3:5  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

1Ti 1:19  having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck,

2 Tim 3:7  Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8  Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

2 Tim 3:13  But evil men and impostors shall advance worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

2 Tim 4:1   Now the Spirit explicitly says, that in latter times some will fall away from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,

2  speaking lies in hypocrisy, having been seared with a hot iron as to their own conscience,

A good conscience will give you a good night’s sleep.

A betrayed conscience will keep you up all night.

Better to be poor but have a good conscience than to be rich with a self-betrayed one.

A man who betrays his conscience has performed the greatest betrayal.

Tough Lessons

  1. When God is training you for something, He will not allow you to bypass or take shortcuts until you have learned what He wants you to learn.
  2. This process can take years.
  3. God will not shorten the time, to get you out of the trial, or because the going is tough.
  4. The lesson will not bend to you. You must bend to the lesson.
  5. The shortening of time will only occur by how fast you learn His lesson.
  6. The shortcuts are found in your ability to line up your learning to His Word, not because the lesson is hard, and God pulls you out from it.
  7. Secondly, shortcuts occur when you learn the lessons quicker because you have eradicated doubt, unbelief, not looking at the circumstances, but only at His Word.
  8. God is a stickler to what He wants to train you for, and won’t relent until you have learned what He wants you to.
  9. Thus, it’s better to get on with His program and quit feeling sorry for yourself.
  10. If you don’t, you will circle round and round and may even die circling around the mountain of disobedience.
  11. Even approaching death will not be a reason for God to pull you out of the testing.
  12. But if you learn the lesson, this may mean added years of life.
  13. God does all of this because He loves you.
  14. More parents should be like God.
  15. God is not politically correct.

Peak Performance

Ephesians 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

Eph 2:21 In whom all the building, rightly joined together, comes to be a holy house of God in the Lord; (Bible In Basic English)

Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Eph 4:16 Through whom all the body, being rightly formed and united together, by the full working of every part, is increased to the building up of itself in love. (Bible In Basic English)

Fitly framed together” relates to the building up of any local church body through the use of people’s spiritual gifts, ministries, and callings.

Paul marvelously describes the function of the New Testament church in one fell swoop.

A local church increases, and grows, as each member within that local body supplies his or her part to the growth in accordance to the gifts and ministries, which Jesus has given to each of them. This is what Paul means in verse sixteen when he employs the term “every joint supplieth.”

Many of our churches do not adhere to Paul’s model.

Too many churches have too few ministers. There is too much regulation by leaders who prohibit the exercise of spiritual gifts and their ministries.

Likewise, there are too many complacent and passive members who do not grow in their spiritual gifts and ministries, and consequently do not carry their specific burden” of testifying to Jesus.

The result is always the same. Only part of the Lord’s fullness is manifest, only part of His glory is demonstrated, and much of the revival that should have taken place, does not come .

Paul continues; “According to the effectual working in the measure of every part” He is saying, “EVERY” member has the responsibility to work within their church at his or her “PEAK LEVEL OF SPIRIT LED PERFORMANCE”.

This requires obedience to God, and dedication to the local body. The key is not to run away to another church when things are not quite right. For church hoppers, personal growth becomes an elusive thing.

I believe that the church must be more of a school, college, and graduate school than anything else.

Lets Drink Coca Cola in Church

Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23  Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

What does fulness mean?

Let’s take a Coca Cola bottle.

What is Coca Cola? Is it the bottle, or the liquid inside?

The bottle is of little importance. It’s just the container.

The fullness of Coca Cola is the brown, sweet, and delightful liquid that we love.

it’s every ingredient that is perfectly mixed in its necessary quantities and precise order, to lawfully identify and labeled it as Coca Cola, apart from anything else in the universe.

It’s the essence and make up of this liquid, which makes it to be Coca Cola and nothing else.

The fullness of God is the very essence, the reality, and the evidence of who God is apart from anything else in the universe.

It is every attribute and characteristic which is required, to make God, God.

The church is the fullness of God!

The Lord has established the church to manifest Him in His essence and reality to the world

This is called the glory of God, or allowing the invisible God to become accurately recognizable to the human senses.

Eph 1:22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

A woman in a local church is obedient to the Lord Jesus. She allows the Lord to transform her in every facet of her life.

God thus is able to fill her His fullness.

In theory, if this believer would yield every facet of her life to Him, she would be filled with the manifested fullness of God.

God is not only satisfied with filling every part of one believer with Himself.

He desires to fill every person, and every part of that person, with Himself.

In every local church, God desires to fill every part of every believer within Himself.

As this takes place His fulness becomes manifested through that local church.

This is called glory.

Wherever the glory of the Lord is demonstrated, multitudes throng to hear and see Him.

This is the definition of revival.

Revival is one of the churches’ main responsibilities.

I am puzzled with the many church growth programs, developed in attempts to draw people to them.

We only need to allow the Lord Jesus to be amply demonstrated in His glory.

The multitudes will surely come.

The more that He becomes displayed and lifted up, automatic revival will take place.

The NT Testament church model stresses that every believer must be filled with the fulness of the Lord for the model to work efficiently.

Church is a place that we congregate to hear a Sunday sermon. It is Sunday school for adults and kids. It is a place for Christian fellowship, and Bible studies, and programs.

These things are good. The problem occurs when we make these activities the means to an end.

The purpose of any church must be to reveal the Person of Jesus Christ by these activities in the community where it’s located, and by them to bring revival.

“The church must identify herself as the one society founded by God to make Him evident in His fulness to the world through the five senses. The church is the one and only universal agent that must, and can, furnish full evidence with all supporting facts, which define the reality of whom God is.  It must manifest Him in His fullness, so that the world has enough evidence to reach a verdict to accept or reject Him and His gospel.”  Jose Alvarez

With the stabilizing of American relationships with my country  of Cuba, what does God think?
I  trust His mouth but don’t  trust what comes from the mouths of politicians.
Tragically my default is not to believe  them until I get results.
But who should believe Pinocchio, anyhow?
What are the political motives  to normalize relationship? Only God knows.
The Castro brothers are driven by the dollar that will supplement a failed pipe dream.
I am bothered that the pope stuck his hand into this. His motives might be good, I don’t know.
The fact that politicians and pope can work out political deals, demonstrates the little that we know about what occurs.
I celebrate the lifting of the embargo for the sake of my fellow Cuban, who will have more breathing room.
In retrospect , the fifty year restriction did very little good.
A surge in the free market system which has  been veiled from my people might motivate them to revolt against the despotic Castro’s.
I got this from a friend which caused me to reflect on how God sees it.
“We have prayed against the principalities and ruling powers in Cuba and for salvation for the people. This could be a big breakthrough.”
God will exploit this move to open the island to a greater move of the Spirit and strengthen economically His church.
Cuba is experiencing revival, but the church dwells in poverty.
The possibilities are now endless if Cuba’s Christian leaders use them wisely.
How will it materialize in light that deals are brokered by ultra-corrupt politicians?
We will wait and see.
I am not counting my chickens till I see them hatch.

Brainstorming The Church

Reinvent yourself in Jesus. Can’t teach and preach to others something that you are not.
Repent of every sin. You won’t be totally effective, otherwise.
Must church always have the format of a sermon?  Why does it always have to be like this?
What about alternating sermons with days of open mike and discussions?
Everybody wants to be recognized, heard and given a chance. This is part of the social revolution. What if church led society in this? Will it attract people? Is church supposed to be a spectator event? Is this why she only attracts “Transfer Christians” from other churches?
Teach church leaders to be Christ centered and cutting edge relevant in the rapidly changing social world. Leaders must study what is happening in the fluid world. No matter what, Jesus Christ will always be the most attractive and relevant person at any time or any generation. So don’t be scared to dream with the Holy Spirit. Don’t be ashamed of Jesus and “politically correctizise” His Word.
No moral issues from the pulpit if we want to attract the market place. Let moral issues be discussed one on one.
Getting out of the denominational tribal mentality into across the board kingdom of God mentality.
A major emphasis on investing into the next generation. Making them an essential part of church activities and ministry. I disagree with separating church into adults and youth. Youth must be part of all ministry teams.
Most church always be in church building? What about renting a room in a MCD’s or another fast food joint, once in a while? What could happen?
Hospitality training 101. The church scores a C Minus on this. Every five star hotel excels in hospitality. Should the church be five stars or two?
Leaders cannot sit on the spirituality and church mountain while neglecting to influence other six cultural mountains. This is the definition of a church ghetto.
So what are the cultural mountains?
Spirituality and Church
Government and Law
Media and Communication
Arts and Entertainment
Business and Finances
Leaders must be foundation layers and builders majoring on “Who the Christian is in Christ?” We are producing foundation less Christians who remain in bondage and powerless. Seminars on the Book of Romans and the Identity of Christ are a must.
Teaching and releasing people into ministry situations where they shadow and learn from those who know. Get away from extensive church training and classes before releasing people into ministry. This is old school dinosaur stuff. .Leaders must provide that kind of an atmosphere where people are given opportunity to do the works of Christ. It can get messy, but so what? Just about every wants an opportunity to minister, get words and learn to release the power of God. Make it available. Be a mentor; let them shadow you, called them forth by your side.
Evangelism is a huge priority. But not going house to house or attempting to convert.  Yuck! Rather go to connect in the market place and be an interested neighbor. Church must emphasize connecting in the market place, by being whom you are, not what you are supposed to do as a Christian. Get out and get a feel for what it is to be a human who connects with another human being. The Christian who does not connect in the market place and stays only on the church mountain lives a dysfunctional Christianity.
Teaching on generously giving to your local church and missions. The Christian who does not do this will never fulfill the destiny which God has for them. The church is terrible at this and this is why it’s stuck in a rut. Giving to the kingdom of God is not only essential to God’s work but to fulfill your destiny.
Raise up those within your congregation to be your special conference speakers. My Lord, there is so much untapped talent before our noses!
Provide more “how to teachings.” Someone said, “Don’t tell me about the fish, teach me how to catch them.”
The fivefold ministry must be part of the leadership team if it’s to be cutting edge.
What else can you add?
Remember that the prophecy going from the mouth of God is that the church belongs to the Christian entrepreneur.  Blessings

The Learning Curve of Exponential Results

I am going through a situation with the Lord Jesus. Case and point. This week I’ve seen God work more, work more actively, and more energetically than in  ten years collectively in the thing I had asked Him to do!

What happened?

My conviction is that in these ten years I have asked God to work in this situation while holding on to un surrendered areas of disobedience to Him.

His slowness in working, which left me unhappy, I see was engineered by God to force me to surrender and obey.

Lack of trust was one. Making money my trust was another. Bitterness and unforgiveness was another. Gluttony, was yet another.

This week, God dealt a crushing blow to the  bitterness.

The work that I have been asking God to do for ten years, He now has on hyper drive

This has always been my case and I suspect every other person’s.

It’s at the point of absolute surrender to what God asks, that He suddenly brings the results we so much pray for.

We ask God to do things for us. God says, get to the point that I want you to get to, and everything will suddenly happen.

Receiving and  results with God is on a learning curve. The faster we absolutely surrender to God places things on an exponential curve of results.
