What is the Baptism of the Holy Ghost? It’s kind of like tofu. I will explain.
When John the Baptist baptized the Lord Jesus River for the repentance of sins, the Lord was submerged underneath the water. This act of submergence and His emerging out of the water had much more significance than the simple physical act of plunging into the waters of the Jordan.
Symbolically speaking, when the Lord was immersed in the water He portrayed the burying of humanity’s old life without God.
His coming up out of the water was symbolic of humanity coming forth out into a new life free from sin, to serve the living God.
In my case, days after being baptized into the Atlantic Ocean, I started to experience a freedom from sinful habits that I had not been able to until then. The simple act of submersion and emergence from those cold February waters had an influence or effect back on me. The immersion and emergence from the waters had in a way set me free.
The baptism of in the Holy Spirit has the very same effect on us, just in a different dimension.
Mark 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you (Immerse, and submerge you) with ( Greek grammar case of location. Not “with” but “in”; residing within a location, or a domain, world and its sovereignty) the Holy Ghost.
While John baptized INTO the water for the forgiveness of sins, the Lord Jesus baptizes INTO the Holy Ghost. Why is the baptism in the Holy Spirit so important?
Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, (Greek: a “ready mind”) but the flesh is weak.
The world of the Spirit is as that of a “continual ready mind” or a mind that is in perpetual state of readiness, while the world of the flesh is weak and infirm.
Biblical baptism entails the imbuement or submersion of one object into a second object. The submergence or immersion of the first item into a second item places the first item into the location or inside the world or domain where the second item resides.
Once within the sphere of the second item’s world, this latter one can now exercise its influence back upon the first one, even to the point of changing the first item to resemble it, by permeating it with its qualities and characteristics.
The effect of the second item working its effect and influence back through to the first item as it permeates it and changes it is called the instrumentality of the second object.
Galatians 3:27 tells us that we are located in the sphere of the world of Christ, so that Christ can work instrumentally back through us, by affecting us, to conform us to His image.
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ(submerged into the domain, sphere, or world of Christ’s influence and sovereignty ) have put on Christ (now wear Christ, whom as clothes which totally cover us, influences and affects back through us to conform us into His image.)
I once read an excellent example of Biblical baptism. In the days of Christ there was a recipe to create a “pickled” vegetable. It was said that a vegetable was BAPTISED into THE LOCATION or SPHERE of a vinegar solution. After a while, the vinegar WORKED INSTRUMENTALLY BACK through the vegetable and “pickled” it.
Tofu, likewise, acquires the taste and texture of any food that it is baptized into. We can say that with whatever food the tofu is BAPTISED INTO, it is INSTRUMENTALLY influenced back by that food to make the tofu like it.
