How Can I Target My Prayers?

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Trues intercession functions by two aspects

# 1 Helpeth or helps

# 2 Intercession

“Helpeth” or help is made up of a word triad roughly translated as “together, coming face to face, in order to take a hold of.”

Helpeth our infirmities- The Holy Spirit comes face to face with us to take a hold of our infirmities or frailties.

Praying by the voice of the Spirit causes us to come together with God.

Then the Holy Spirit arises in our spirits and comes face to face with us in order take a hold of those difficulties.

Now let’s move on to “intercession.”

It is made up of two words rendered as “the hyper hitting of the target or bull’s eye”

The Spirit itself maketh intercession for us – “The Spirit hits the target above and beyond what is normal.” Or, “The Spirit does the right thing and does it with skill.”

In intercession by Spirit’s voice, God comes face to face to take a hold of our weaknesses, and to give us  breakthroughs with bull’s eye accuracy which only He through the Holy Spirit can deliver.

When we intercede in the Spirit, we dont go wrong.

For in it God comes face to face with us, takes a hold of our requests and performs them within the bull’s eye accuracy of His will.

How To Hit The Bulls Eye With Your Prayers?

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

  • Helpeth are the three Greek words: sun anti lambano.

These three words means to meet face to face in order to for one to receive something from the other,

  • Helpeth our infirmities– The Greek tells us that the Holy Spirit comes face to face with us to take a hold together or receive from us our frailties, needs or problems.

27  And he that searcheth ( ereunaoo) the hearts knoweth( INTUITIVELY) what is the mind (FOCUS and MINDSET) of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession (entugchano) for the saints according to the will of God.

  • Searcheth: ereunaoo: To sound out like sonar hits the depths of the ocean.

The Holy Spirit then searches the depths of God to know His will.

We see this same word in the following verse.

1Co 2:10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth  (ereunaoo) all things, yea, the deep things of God.

So the Holy Spirit by His grace takes a hold of our needs and shows us the will of God for them.

The catch is that everything is done by the voice of the Spirit and not our own will or emotions.

  • The Spirit itself maketh intercession for us – Greek: (entugchano)

27  And he that searcheth ( ereunaoo) the hearts knoweth( INTUITIVELY) what is the mind (FOCUS and MINDSET) of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession (entugchano) for the saints according to the will of God.

  • Tugchano– To hit the bull’s eye, or “To hit the target above and beyond what is normal.” To do the right thing and do it with skill.”

Thus in intercession in the Holy Spirit, He takes our needs and reveals to us the will of God for them as He searches out God’s depths.

The revealed will of God is always spot on, or hits the bull’s eye.

So when we intercede in the Spirit and do what the Holy Spirit speaks to us, we always hit the bull’s eye in our prayers. It’s impossible to miss.

The Battle: Prayer

Colossians 4:12  Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently (agonizing with athletic zeal) for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect (to the very maturity of Christ’s character)  and complete (fulfilling every aspect of Christ will, will so that you have total confidence and assurance in everything that He wants from you)  in all the will of God.

1) Brought to a place of spiritual maturity in every aspect of our lives; and having a full assurance and understanding of everything that God has willed for our lives.

2) Knowing and understanding every aspect of what God has called us to do and willed for us, and do it with all spiritual maturity)

3) To the limit of the very maturity of Christ’s character so that we can fulfill every aspect of Christ will through it.

James 5:16  Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

The prayers of a righteous person carry much inner strength and punch to exert a mighty flurry of activity and efficiency before the eyes of God.

Tim 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

Supplications- specific petitions about our needs and desires.

Prayers- General prayers made unto God

Intercessions- An interesting word that can be defined in many ways.

“Conference, encounters, conversation,” are all part of intercession.

We can describe it as the act of developing a relationship with a person as to become intimate with him or her, resulting in the ability to hold conversations with that person.

Holding sustained and intimate conversations (intercession) with the Lord can only be the result of breaking through into the Spirit realm.

Paul describes the Spirit realm as the third heaven.

2 Corinthians 12:2  I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.

The first heaven is the area of our physical existence.

Ephesians 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The second heaven is what Paul refers to as “spiritual wickedness in high places” This is the area of demonic activity. For us to get into a place of holding sustained and intimate conversations with the Lord we must break through the first heaven of our earthly circumstances, and the second heavens of demonic activity, into the third heaven of God’s glory.

Breaking forth into the Spirit realm takes physical time and labor in the Lord.

Spiritual labors are such things as speaking in tongues, worship, spiritual warfare, and waiting on the Lord.

Time is the most important factor in breaking into the third heaven.  We live in the Burger King culture of the fast food life.

One of the greatest attacks by the devil on believers living in Western societies is to tempt them into attempting the same fast food approach with the Lord.  God is not the God of the fast foods or shortcuts.

Breaking into the third heaven is founded on time and that time on many occasions takes hours a day with the Lord.

Intercession is the most important and the most difficult ministry in the world. There is nothing that the devil will attempt to hinder most than the time that the believer plans to spend in intercession.  We must understand what true intercession is.  Let us look at the following scriptures.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Helpeth our infirmities- The Greek tells us that the Holy Spirit comes face to face with us to take a hold together with us of our infirmities and frailties.

The Spirit itself maketh intercession for us – Greek: “To hit the target above and beyond what is normal.”   Or, to do the right thing and do it with skill.

The intercessory ministry of the Holy Spirit, as He comes to take a hold of our weaknesses, is to give us the breakthroughs, answers, and deliverances that we need with bull’s eye accuracy.

This, is called the sword of the Spirit at work, which is none else than the rhema word of God.

The rhema word of God is the Lord’s surgical weapon (or sword) as it is wielded during intercession to discover, isolate, and spiritually operates upon the specifics of an ungodly situation that has been brought before you by the Lord in prayer.

Eph 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the rhema word of God:

1Cor 2:10 But God hath revealed them (taking the lid off) unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth (sounds out like a sonar sounds out the deep things in the ocean. all things, yea, the deep things of God.

The rhema word of God reveals the things of God. It also sounds out, in the same way that a sonar on a ship sounds the bottom of the ocean floor, the deep things of God.

The Lord never deals with the symptoms of problems.  That is the work of the devil.

The evil one has the world riding on a merry go round of psychology, symptoms, syndromes, and disorders.  The Lord on the other hand always drives straight to the root of the problem.

It has been my experience that in most cases of serious diseases among Christians there is a spiritual, family, generational, or sin root associated with it.

The purpose of intercession is to sound out the depths of God so that He reveals and isolates the specific roots of the malady, and we destroy it in prayer with the same sword of the Spirit all while in the same time of intercession.  Intercession is the revelation of the ungodly roots of a problem. We pray back in accordance to the specifics of what the Lord shows us warrants the situation.  In all situations, and especially serious ones, the surgical work must be done in the Spirit and the results in the physical will always follow. The devil keeps us locked in the physical and psychological, and the roots continue to bear bad fruit.

True intercession is usually most successful through a human vessel that has gone through the cross so that the believer’s emotions and will have been healed and stilled and are now submitted to the voice of the Holy Spirit. A believer that has his or her soul life healed and stilled can hear the voice of the Spirit clearly.

Secondly, their state of quietness and submission is enough to allow the Lord to intercede through them. Deep intercession, many a time, is not the believer interceding, but the Lord interceding through the believer.  This believer is the clean vessel for the Lord to move within.

As we discussed earlier on, it is only when the Lord intercedes that He knows how to hit with perfect accuracy the bull’s eye of the roots of any problem that we bring before Him. He reveals it to us in the third heaven and we use this revelation as the sword of the Spirit to pierce, destroy, sever, and deliver.

What Is The Ultimate Purpose For Tongues?

Our church’s lead pastor made a significant comment.

He explained what the name of God as Jehovah means.

God as Jehovah, is the one who not only brings things into existence, but makes Himself responsible to do so.

He is not only the architect of existence but has a strong desire to manifest these things to us.

I can’t bring anything into existence, not even a hair on my head, but God can.

Having said this, I can confidently say I am in real need of seeing things which I have prayed for years, finally come to pass.

What about you?

It seems like life is one big pot full of conglomerate  things which I believe for, and yet half of them don’t seem to ever manifest.

I’ve thought that I am waiting for God, when many times He waits for me.

Not that some things, in God’s timing,  don’t take a long time to come to pass, because they do.

Mt 23:34  Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute (diokoo) them from city to city:

Php 3:12  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after (diokoo) if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Php 3:14  I press (diokoo) toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

But I believe that there are things that I passively wait on the Lord for, that if I enthusiastically persecuted them by prayer, they would quickly come to pass.

Yes, there is a righteous and holy persecution of the things which God wants to give to us.

I forget that God is the sole agent of creation and existence, and as its agent, is more anxious in bringing them to pass than what I think.

He anxious to create, when I think that He wants me to wait.

I must learn to coöperate with Him in this process.

1Co 3:9  For we are laborers together with God; ye are God’s husbandry; ye are God’s building.

Though God is Almighty, many a time He will limit Himself to act in accordance to the prayers of His people.

Having said this, I believe that the greatest prayer which allows us into this creative and birthing process is praying in tongues in association with what God wants to give to us.

I am not talking about the gift of tongues that we hear in a charismatic service.

I am talking about getting down to business with The Almighty in the things that you are really desirous to get from Him.

These are private tongues between you and God.

This is the labor of prayer through tongues.

Yes, it’s labor.

Like, every good thing in life, there is a price to pay to get it, and it usually takes labor.

This type of prayer  allows us to break into that realm where our faith intersects God’s will, sticks its finger in the socket of God’s electricity, and bang, suddenly He births.

As I said, many times God is waiting on us, when we think that we wait on Him.

He waits on us to birth and to give, but we do the labor by praying in tongues.

It’s there, that it’s not us who pray but the Spirit of God intercedes according to His wish to create and to give.

Yes, praying in tongues is arduous, time-consuming, and at numerous times boring.

Yet, every time that I have done this, much of what I’ve spent months or years waiting for, in weeks and even days, I get.

I’ve heard of people who pray in tongues one hour a day and begin to get.

Before God launched  us into our journey of faith in the 90’s, I prayed in tongues for three days, hours every day.

At the end, God gave me a spectacular picture about His promise for finances and provision that has carried us through  sixteen years of family missions.

It surely beats spending months and years assiduously waiting!

If you don’t believe me, try it!

It will be one of the more challenging things you will ever do, but the thrill of finally seeing things become your realities, is so worth it!

Children revival in Uganda

“One of my father’s favorite saying is the one about intercession”

One of my father’s favorite saying is, “for everything in life there is a price to pay. The greater the thing, the greater the price.”

Excellence demands sacrifice.

Self-denial in many good things to focus on the few exceptional is the path to leadership.

Php 1:10  That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

The devil will give us the good, even the very good, if it will deviate us from the bull’s eye of God’s  excellent will. Busyness is the path to the good. Hearing and obeying God’s narrow voice is the one to the excellent.

In proportion to how close we hit the bull’s eye of His straight and chiseled ways is our proportion of anointing and success with God.

Our world is at war with the invisible clashes of the kingdom of God versus those of Satan.

Though we can’t see them many times, these  battles are bigger and more plentiful than the ones on earth.

For the one not following Christ Jesus, the devil leaves him alone. Satan has him in his back pocket. He does not mess with him, but lets him go to hell.

Eph 612  For we wrestle ( pale: wrestling at close quarters) not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

But for the Christian the conflicts are relentless, fierce and yet very subtle, almost invisible.  Paul calls them skirmishes at close quarter with an unseen wrestler.

The barrage of the devil’s  attacks is in the forms of lies.

Yes, the Christian has overcome him through Christ’s victory, but his schemes as lying methodologies are ever-present.

2Co 2:11  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. ( injected demonic thoughts into our thinking as schemes)

The devil’s greatest lie is to inject the symptoms of sickness, anxieties, and fears  as thoughts into the thinking of a person in an attempt of making her believe that she is the one with the problem when in reality it’s an external attack.

If the devil can convince her that it’s her problem he whips her.

I have been a Christian for 33 years. The warfare now is the most focused and subtle of all times. This is a harbinger not only of the end times, but also of the good to come.  When the devil notes that God is up to something, he fights all the harder.

The word’s most wretched individual is the uncommitted Christian. She is the one with a foot in God’s kingdom and one in the world. She draws a line in the sand to the Lord. The Bible calls her lukewarm

I say that she is the most distressed of creatures; because both the devil and God vie for her attention. She is caught in a spiritual tug of war.

Since we live in a tension between two kingdoms at combat, our victories can only come through breakthroughs.

Eph 6:11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles ( methodologia ) of the devil.

Satan’s kingdom volleys against the Christian with the  fiery darts of lying methodologies.  As long as we believe the lie, the devil will hit and hit.

Eph 6:16  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts ( ignited missiles doused in fuel and shot) of the wicked.

Joh 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

It’s the knowledge of the truth which frees us.

If we think something to be God’s Word and yet it’s not, but we erroneously think  that it is, it won’t liberate us.

It’s our knowing the truth in its accuracy that frees us. It’s not even the truth which liberates, but our exact knowledge of it.  We must be students of the Bible for this reason.

Our beliefs and opinions about God will do little at the end, if they are not precisely in tandem with God’s Word.   It’s not what we think about God that matters, but that we think  in conformity to His truth.

Our lack of faith does not invalidate His.

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed  (metamorphosed)  by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

God’s kingdom functions by our metamorphosis and transformation into the image of Christ. Only the image of Christ attains to the victory.

Anyone who has noted an ugly caterpillar metamorphosed into a beautiful butterfly, appreciates the difficulty of the work.

For the Christian, transformation into the image of Christ is no different.

You need God’s spirit of breakthrough in intercession to be metamorphosed.

Micah 2:13  The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.

The prophet Micah, calls God the breaker, or The One with the breaker anointing.

God always functions in breakthrough.

There is no more effective way to release the breaker anointing than by intercession on our knees.

Intercession to release the breaker and secure the victory is the most intensive of labor.

It’s demanding and time-consuming. One must be willing to deny things to become skillful at it.

When launching into intercession it will be boring.

The devil will tempt you to drowse off, and you will.  It seems like the breaker will never come.  Your kids will fight, the phones will ring.

The one thing that the devil can’t oppose though, is a saint on his knees.

Because I grew up without email, Facebook  and cell phones , or pastors who took out time to speak into my life, I learned to get what I needed on my knees.

There is no greater thing than procuring from God  on your knees.

Learning to get the breakthrough on your knees is the most potent tool available to the Christian.

If you prayer time is confined to your car or  a five-minute devotional on  your mobile Bible program, I sadly assure you that the breakthrough will not come.

Commence tonight to learn the pleasures of intercession. It’s the greatest of challenges but in weeks, you will  get many of the answers that you have waited in faith for years.

It all comes down to desperation. God is a God who pours out His holy fire on our altars of desperation.

How far, how high, how free, and how healed do you want to be?

Mt 24:35  Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Nothing has changed in the Bible.  What was then, today is.

As my father said, “for everything in life there is a price to pay. The greater the thing, the greater the price.”
