How Does God Speak?

The Greek word oida is the word to know.

The other one is the word ginosko.

Ginosko is acquired knowledge over time. Such is the knowledge which one acquires progressively in a college course.

Oida, however is instantaneous, gut feeling, intuitive or instinctive knowledge.

When I go to church and see the senior pastor with a black shirt on, I immediately know that his shirt is black.

I do not have to take a class.

Oida, is knowing that you know, that you know, that you know.

My pastor’s wife  asks, “What does your gut tell you?”

God speaks to us 24/7 in oida knowledge.

The voice of God, which is small and still, speaks to you the sufficient knowledge that you need in order to satisfy what God asks of you.

God is a God of a few words.

He will give you enough for you to instinctively know what you must do.

We made it from Miami to Albuquerque, 2,200 miles of driving, with four small children, to a place we had never been to, on three words of oida knowledge from God’s mouth.

It’s all in my wife’s book about our journey of faith.

If you wait to understand what God speaks before acting you will  camp out with a cane, for you will become an old man, still sitting down and waiting.

God will not take any further if you wait to understand why He  is telling you to do such and such.

All you need is the knowledge of what He asks you.

God’s golden rule, is knowledge first, second action, and finally, His understanding will come after you act.

Oida, tells us that God speaks in our heart of hearts, by intuition or gut feeling.

 Gal 2:20  I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

If you are  dead, then who is the One speaking in you?

Yup, you guessed it. Jesus Himself.

I tell folks to step out into the still small gut feeling voice . If you are dead and corpses don’t speak, there is a good chance that its God speaking.

God’s voice is first what and not why.

Here are some examples of the oida knowledge.

Make it a great Sunday at church.

If John F Kennedy was a Christian he might have said this, this morning.

“And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your church can do for you — ask what you can do for your church.”

Mt 6:8  Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth ( oida ) what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Mt 9:4  And Jesus knowing ( oida ) their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

Ro 8:27  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth ( oida ) what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

1Co 2:11  For what man knoweth ( oida ) the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth ( oida ) no man, but the Spirit of God.

1Co 13:2  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand( oida ) all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

1Jo 2:20  But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know ( oida ) all things.

1Jo 5:15  And if we know ( oida ) that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Re 1:12  And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw ( oida ) seven golden candlesticks;

Re 4:1  After this I looked ( oida ),and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.

Re 21:2  And I John saw ( oida ) holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Re 21:22  And I saw ( oida ) no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

The Four Types of Spiritual Knowledge

Ephesians 4:16  From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love

This scripture shows us that only when every member of Christ’s body, is working to his or her maximum output, in the ministries, callings, and giftings that Christ has placed within each of us, can real building up take place.

Satan is quite content to allow individual ministries to become large and powerful, as long as the majority of the body never realizes that each of us, is likewise equally called into something great and of significance for the Lord.

The New Testament model of the church is very much founded on our acquiring certain types of “spiritual knowledge” which are important to God.

Our understanding and our acquisition of these four types of spiritual knowledge are vital for building our churches.

  OUR KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST

 Ephesians 1:17  That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge <1922> of him:

These four types of knowledge all come from the Greek word “epiginosko”

(Strong’s # 1921 and 1922)

This  word describes a knowledge that is “mature, probing and deep, complete, correct, thorough, and precise.” It is so penetrating that the revelation of this type of knowledge will transform a person and propels him to do the will of God and to the next leval

The exhortation in the previous verses is that we would build our churches through a precise, intimate, and exact knowledge of Christ Jesus living within each of its members.  Why is that?

Eph3:7  Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

Christ reveals Himself differently in each of us in accordance with the callings that He has placed within.

The more that we know Him personally in accuracy and intimacy, the more that every ministry will be revealed, strengthened, and guided within the local body, fulfilling Ephesians 4:6.

Rev 19:10  And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy;

We can see that very manifestation of the living Christ is the source of all spiritual gifts.  Out of the very presence of Jesus flows the power of God.  His very gifts glorify Him.

John 15:26  But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

1Cor 1:5  That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;

6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you.  Brethren, the more of Jesus that is revealed in each of, the more the gifts will operate, and the more will be the edification which the church will receive.

 KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WILL

 Col1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Many churches function without  an exact and complete knowledge of what God’s will is for their specific vision?  To know God’s will in “all spiritual wisdom” is incredibly important.  The “wisdom of God” is the will of God according to His strategy, His ways, and His timing.  It will always occur in the Spirit, and always through a death and resurrection of the vision for that ministry.  We need to spend the days, weeks, and months, which it takes in prayer to discern that will.

To do His will “with all spiritual understanding” is to discern what are God’s specific steps in fulfilling the will which we have just discerned.  A church fulfilling the will of God “with all spiritual understanding” will take the painstaking time to move step by step in line with the Holy Spirit, never behind, and never before Him.

KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH

1Tim2:4  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.  Beloved, to know the truth, is to know God’s word deeply, with accuracy, and in accordance to fact and certainty.

John 8:32  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Many, sadly quote this scripture without understanding it.  What Jesus is telling us, is the truth shall free us in the exact proportion to our accurate spiritual understanding and precise application of it.   Our misunderstanding of scriptures through error, or because we attempt to modify and justify them to make them adaptable to the current culture, will not free us. God is not obligated to honor our errors or cultural adaptations. He is only obligated to honor His Word.

 THE KNOWLEDGE OF EVERY GOOD THING WE HAVE IN CHRIST

Philemon 1:6  That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

This rarely used, but vitally important scripture, tells us that our faith will only become effectively empowered, in proportion to our discovery and use of  every  spiritual gift, calling, and ministry that Christ has placed within each of us.  Beloved this is not the responsibility of the few but of all.  When a church discovers and implements it, we shall see another church of Acts.

2 Timothy 4:5  But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Colossians 4:17  And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil

The Four Types of Spiritual Knowledge

KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST

 Ephesians 1:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge <1922> of him:

The four types of knowledge that we shall study  all come from the Greek word “epiginosko”.

(Strong’s# 1921 and 1922) This particular word describes knowledge as one which is “mature, probing and deep, complete, accurate, thorough, and precise.”

Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony (revelation) of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony (revelation) of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy;

The very revelation of the living Christ is the source of all spiritual gifts. Out of the very presence of Jesus flows the power of God. His very gifts glorify Him.

1Cor 1:5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;

6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you.

Brethren, the more of Jesus that is revealed in each of, the more the gifts will work, and the more will be the edification which the church will receive.

 KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WILL

Col1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Beloved, did you know that most of our churches work today without an accurate and complete knowledge of what God’s will is for their specific vision? It is no wonder that most of them spin their wheels for years to come, caught in a web of powerless programs and agendas.

To know God’s will in “all spiritual wisdom” is incredibly important.

The “wisdom of God” is the will of God according to His strategy, His ways, and His timing. It will always happen in the Spirit, and always through a death and resurrection of the vision for that ministry. We need to spend the hours, days, weeks that it takes in prayer to discern that will. Much more will be accomplished by our waiting and seeking, than by our busyness in a flurry of activities.

To do His will “with all spiritual understanding” is to discern what are God’s specific steps in fulfilling the will which we have discerned.

Many of us sadly “claim and frame” this scripture. In reality what Jesus is telling us, is the truth shall free us in the exact proportion to the correct understanding and performance that we have of it.

Our misunderstanding of scriptures through error, a lack of meditation or study, or because we have turned them into a “doctrine of men” will not free us.

THE KNOWLEDGE OF EVERY GOOD THING WE HAVE IN CHRIST

 Philemon 1:6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual  (energized) by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

This rarely used, but vitally important scripture, tells us that our faith will only become effectively empowered or energized, as we discover and use every gifting, calling, and ministry that Christ has placed within us. Beloved this is not the responsibility of the few but of all. When a church discovers this and implements it, we shall see another church of Acts.

The End Result

2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Inspiration: All scripture is God breathed and is therefore profitable for teaching

Reproof: Intimate knowledge of the scriptures brings correction to us by exposing sin and blind spots in our life. If we heed to the exposure brought to us through the Word it will brings us freedom in Christ.

Correction : Correction here means to be restored to an upright state resulting in salvation. Do you notice the order? Reproof brings exposure of sin. If we heed we start to become free. As we become free the Word of God then starts to restore us to an upright state.

Instruction: This talks about mentoring and discipling and the final release into our ministry. Exposure, restoration, mentoring, and call to ministry.

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

 Greek: The man or woman of God becomes thoroughly equipped and furnished by the Word of God for every Spirit led work; The man or woman of God is equipped and fitted with every necessary piece of equipment by the Word of God for anything that the Lord might have for him or her need to do.

When we went to battle Sadam Hussein in the Persian Gulf in great part we won because we were thoroughly equipped with the best of arms, technique, and staff. It is our deep knowledge of God’s Word that furnishes us with the spiritual equipment necessary to successfully carry out God’s holy missions.

John 1:1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Greek: In the beginning was the logos, and the logos was in fellowship and communion with God, and God was the logos.

With God: Not that Jesus was with God as one who was next or along Him, but as one that is with God because He lives in continual fellowship and communion with Him.

The word was God. More correctly, “God was the logos”. Jesus, as God the Son, is first found in an eternal and continual communion with God the Father, so He can then come to mankind as the logos word, which translated and interpreted to us the conceptuality of the Father.

John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

his one was from all eternity is in constant communion and fellowship with God. (John repeats the theme of verse one to emphasize the complete sufficiency of Jesus to assume the role of “God, the logos word” to humanity.

The word of God is comprised of the logos and the rhema word. Both are essential in furnishing us with the fullness of God’s knowledge and will, both as individual believers and corporately in our churches.

The logos word defines God in general concepts and ideas to give us the “big picture” of who God is.

The rhema word is a moment-to-moment part of the logos word uttered by the voice of God’s Spirit and “tailored made” to equip us with God’s commands, guidance, and the fulfillment of our needs in accordance to our specific circumstances.
