The Church’s Niche Market

Eph 4:12  for the perfecting of the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ,

13  until we all arrive to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

The church is the revelation of THE MAN, Christ Jesus, upon the earth.

Eph 4:15  but speaking the truth in love, we may grow up in all things into Him who is the head–Christ;

The church grows up into THE MAN in all things.

This growth comes through the revelation of THE MAN within the church.

The function of church leadership is to facilitate and mediate the revelation of The Man so that the church can grow up into Him in all things.

Joh 12:32  32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

The church draws all people unto THE MAN, by propelling this internal revelation as external manifestation through spiritual gifts into the world.

Internal revelation and external manifestation.

This is the task of the church.

There is no other human entity that does this.

This is her global monopoly.

This is her 10 X better factor.

She needs to exploit this.

This is her niche market.

Good Leadership Requires That You Love Cow Poop!

“Success can be measured by the number of uncomfortable conversations you’re willing to have.” Tim Ferris

“Great leadership means that you don’t give a hoot about what others think of what you do as long as you as what you do is in the will of God.” Jose Alvarez

“Clarity trumps persuasion.” Anonymous

“We need less saluting and more shooting.” Dr. Lawton Smith

“Words are cheap. The biggest thing you can say is ‘elephant’.” Charlie Chaplin

“The world belongs to super communicators and connectors” Jose Alvarez

“If you look to a person to get from instead of giving to them, you will fail.” Jose Alvarez

“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” Mark Twain

Proverbs 14: 4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

The crib is clean from cow poop, because there are no cows in it.

If you are going to use the cow to help you plow and produce, your crib will have cow poop.

God is looking for men and women who prosper in poop.

Many see the problem but few will get their hands dirty to solve it.

If we are only looking for success in our ministry and business without becoming a good leader in it, we miss God’s higher purpose.

Many say, “we need to do this and that!” Very few will ever do anything to get it done.

Solutions come through communicating, sharing, connecting, networking, praying, getting dirty in the poop, confronting, giving input, have a willingness to be wrong and learn, sacrifice time and resources, serving, vulnerability, transparency, accessibility to others, and to know people and be known by them.

Good leaders must be willing to get their hands dirty with cow poop.

Church leaders, if you want to prophesy to the poop but stay clean from it you are missing the calling

If you run away from the poop without attempting to clean it up first, you miss it.

It’s impossible to correctly judge a situation without entering into relationship and spend time with the person who created it.

Time must be devoted until you get an idea of what it means to walk in his shoes, or understand why she ticks the way she does.

I can only adequately judge a situation when I have spent time with the people who are in it.

Some will complain about an individual, but very few will spend time to mentor them. This is the call of the hour. It’s the call for fathers and mothers in business and faith.

There are others run from meeting to meeting or church to church looking for the greener grass, but few will improve where they have been called to in the first place.

No one likes cow poop, or poop of any kind, but good leaders learn to thrive in it.

Are you a poop lover?

God is Creative and Productive

God is Creative and Productive

In Wiwili Nicaragua one of our team members got creative. Most people in this town are poor. It’s easy to hand out $12.00 to a needy one. But what about buying three chickens with this money? How many did the chickens feed? This is what she did. Creativity becomes productivity. This is the heart of God.

Carving Out Time To Think

This is an important video by Noreena Hertz.

The brightest entrepreneurs are those who think and implement their ideas.

God is the idea creator par excellence.

The church is in need of entrepreneurial ideas which the Holy Spirit downloads.

In 2014 the Holy Spirit wants to break into the word’s kingdom with His amazing ideas.

I am good at listening to the Holy Spirit.

I’ve not been good at asking the Holy Spirit to download His ideas which will get the church out of the doldrums of windless things which don’t work.

I have never given myself time to think with the Holy Spirit’s ideas.

Let’s face it, we have the mind of Christ. Let’s put it into use in 2014.

As Noreena says, we need to carve out a daily time to think. And I add, not to think alone, but to think with the Holy Spirit.

If the church is to be relevant to this generation we need to implement the Holy Spirits ideas.

Mat 11:12  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

The kingdom of God is taken by spiritual violence and spiritually strong and forceful people from moment to moment snatch, seize it, and take it away as a precious bounty.

Rom 12:2  And be not conformed ( don’t follow the schematic drawing or the blueprint of this world system) to this world: but be ye transformed (metamorphosis; or attain to a complete and radical inward change and becoming a totally different individual)  by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove (only when we are radically changed can we then test, approve and possess for ourselves the mature, well pleasing, and good will of God) what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Transformation is the same word used for the metamorphosis of a tadpole to a frog or a caterpillar to a butterfly.  If we do not pay the price to affect that transformation, we will never be free.

Acts 20:24  But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Of no account do I make or hold my life in honor, so that I may complete my course on the horse track on which I am racing upon with joy, and the ministry that I received from the Lord to testify fully and thoroughly of the glad tidings of the grace of God.

Philippians 3:12  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after ( BIBLICAL WORD FOR PERSECUTION) , if that I may apprehend  (GRASP AND SEIZE) that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

I persecute, pursue, and overtake, in hope that I can grasp, seize, and make my own, all of what is contained in what Christ originally grasped and seized me for.

Philippians  3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Therefore, I neglect and no longer care for what is behind me. I stretch myself out and towards, and run swiftly after what is before me. The direction being, the mark of the goal of the high price of unbroken fellowship of Christ’s resurrection life, and the hope of His calling for me.

1 Timothy 6:19  Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

Seize and grab to, pull in, and make it our own possession.  Eternal life while we are on the earth is the resurrection life.  It does not come magically to us but must be seized and pulled in though obedience.

Matthew 25:1  Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

Matthew 25:3  They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

Took  from the Greek word to receive. To get, possess, and make my own. The foolish virgins did not obtain, and possessed the fullness of the Spirit.

Galatians 4:19  My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

Gal 6:15  For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth(inward strength and force, to have strength to overcome health, ability, capacity) any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.

Only Christ being formed and birthed in us is of any capacity or ability for us to overcome and get the spiritual victory.

As a Matter of Fact, I Have Come to Enjoy the Poop!

Proverbs 14: 4  Where no oxen are, the crib is clean (from food, water and poop); but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

God is looking for good leaders more than He is for good ministers. There are many ministers and ministries. Good leaders are hard to find, though.

God is looking for problem solvers. Many will see the problem but few will get their hands dirty to solve it. If we are only looking for the success of our ministry without first becoming a good leader in it, we will miss God’s higher purpose.

The church is full of people who rightfully see the problems but will do little to solve them.

Solutions come through forgiving, relating, sharing, praying,  getting dirty in people’s poop, confronting, a willingness to also be wrong and learn, sacrificing time and resources, vulnerability, transparency,  accessibility to others, and to know people and be known by them.   This is leadership.

It’s the capacity to forgive those who have wrong you in your innocence.  It’s the ability to walk the extra mile with them in order show the  love of Christ. It’s the aptitude of demonstrating continuing patience, when they are undeserving.

Forgiving our enemy allows us to see the potential which Christ has placed in them and pray accordingly. Our prayers will bring the conviction of God upon them.

At the same time, forgiveness does not demand our becoming a floor mat for an enemy to step on.  Loving confrontation tempered with forgiveness is a must. A good leader juggles forgiveness and godly confrontation all at one time.

A good leader makes himself accessible to those who he leads. He is not the high and mighty man of God. Jesus , was a “ normal Joe” and so must we. Jesus was never too busy for people and so must I.

Many come to me, “ pastor, I know that you are busy,”. My reply is, “ if Jesus was never too busy, how can I?’

Proverbs 14: 4  Where no oxen are, the crib is clean (from food, water and poop); but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

Where there are cows, there is sure poop in the stable. If we want a program driven church where few are given a chance to grow we might not have much poop. If you want a tidy church, then don’t disciple. If you don’t care for the poop, don’t  take a chance on raising up others. Stay with your tightly controlled programs.

But if we are relationship driven and want to raise others, we must be ready for the poop to come. Revival is messy. Revival is relational. Revival involves the cattle.

Good leaders must be willing to get their hands dirty with spiritual poop. If you simply want to prophesy to the poop and stay clean you are are missing the higher calling.  If you run away from the poop without attempting to clean it up first, you are also missing God’s higher purpose.

I am risk taker with the God-given potential of those around me. Love, belongs to those who relinquish control, who pioneer, and replicate themselves into others. Love belongs to those who pass the baton and push themselves out of a job for the sake of upcoming generations.

Many will run away from the problem, but who will remain and solve it?  This is the mark of a leader.

A minister can have a ministry and gauge his or her success through the ministry, but God is not satisfied with that.

It’s impossible to accurately judge a situation without entering into relationships and spend time with the people who created it. I have discovered that I can only adequately judge a situation when I have spent real-time and involvement with the people who are in it.

It’s easy to prophesy to the problem from the outside without paying the price to get involved, get your hands dirty, and solve it. As a matter of fact, a prophecy from the outside without getting involved with those to whom you are prophesying it to, will always be “only partially correct.”

Some will complain about an person, but very few will spend time to mentor and disciple that person. This is the call of the hour.

There are others who will run from meeting to meeting or church to church looking for the greener grass, but few will change for the better what they have been called do in the first place. As my friend Dr. Lawton Smith would say, “We need less saluting and more shooting.”

As I grow older, I am convinced that healthy church growth will only occur with relationship minded people. I feel that people are tired of “churchiness” and are looking for relationships, reality, loving confrontation to their brokenness and ample forgiveness for their sins.   I am tired of meetings just for meetings sake. I think that God is as well.

As a matter of fact, I have come to enjoy the poop!

At a baptism in Maasai Land, Maashuru, Kenya.

How To Win The 2012 American Presidency

I tuned in to the Glenn Beck radio program yesterday while driving.

Beck was discussing leadership, and how those who  lead must  do so by  example.

Beck articulated that a master only obtains credibility when he washes the feet of those whom he serves. Or the leader to the ones whom she leads.

As is customary sometimes with Beck, he will hit on something that fires me up and gets me out of my old paradigmal  box thinking.

God is s linear thinker, while people are box thinkers.

Much of the exertion in the renewing of the mind as discussed by the Apostle Paul in Romans 12:2,  is to get us out of box thinking and into God’s linear thinking.

We know that Mitt Romney is a millionaire and if elected would not need a presidential salary.

What if, Beck suggested, Romney would declare the following to the nation.

“I will not take a salary during my tenancy as president. I will make certain that my salary goes into the reduction of the national debt.”

What would Americans think? Would they love this idea?

Would this serve a breath of political fresh air to the majority of Americans?

I would think so.

Would this be a political game changer for Mitt?

I would think so.

Would this get any candidate owning  this, elected?

I would think so.

Beck then went on to discuss the salary of the average American.

$40, 000.00 was the figure he gave.

What if each member of the Congress and the Senate would commit to collect this average American salary and place the rest into the reduction of the  national debt?

This is honest leadership which will inspire Americans versus the Cronyism that we see in Washington DC.

Leaders must put their money where their mouths are.

Beck echoes what the Apostle Paul penned about principled leadership two thousand years back.

1Ti 3:2  A bishop ( episcope) then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Bishop is the Greek  compound “episcope”.

Epi, is the preposition, to be on top, above,  or upon.

Scope is the word to scope out, scrutinize, and inspect.

The bishop or for that sense, any leader, must be on top or above those whom she leads so that she can from this place scope out.

Being above others is not a crooked  power grab or the lust for control.

A moral leader is above those whom she leads in character, integrity, honesty, maturity, self-sacrifice and the willingness to serve.

From this above position she can then scope out and down, and scrutinize the problems to support and solve.

1Ti 5:17  Let the elders that rule ( proistemi ) well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.

The Apostle Paul uses yet another compound in defining upright rulership or government.

Pros is the preposition to place something  before something else.

Histemi is to cause something to stand; that is to establish or fix something in place.

So ruling according to God is to go before and set up, or cause something to stand as an example, for others to perceive and follow.

A good leader goes before those who she leads, and places herself as an example to be followed.

Paul boldly says.

1Co 11:1  Be ye followers (mimetes: from where the word mimic comes) of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Be a mimic of me as I am a mimic or an imitator of Christ.

This sadly confirms the systemic and inclusive failure of American politics.

Those in power, lead not by providing  a proper example for others to follow, but by the tearing down of an opponent to be exalted. This type of leadership will eventually cause the leader and those whom he leads to trip into a ditch.

But what if, as Beck suggests, there would be a true episcope who leads by proistemi?

I am thinking about circulating my blog entry to Mitt Romney, Barack Obama, my senators and congressman and see if there are any takers.

I think that Beck’s idea is good enough to go viral.

Feel free to share this blog entry if you think that in 2012 we need elected politicians whom will lead by example and not by corruption.

I would put my money that any presidential candidate who would commit in doing what Beck recommends would win the 2012 election.
