Unpretentious!

I love these five photos.

The first two are of young women whom we encountered during ministry in Kenya. The lack of frivolousness and pretentiousness in Africa’s young people inspires me.

The third photo was of a five day Bible conference in Maasai Land in Kenya. Though a few of the kids are asleep, one must appreciate what is occurring.

Most of them spoke little English

I was teaching in this conference utilizing lots of New Testament Greek. My preaching was in English. My translator was interpreting my English with my Greek words back into the Massai language.

These kids sat through five days of this type of material.

I was moved by their dedication and spiritual hunger which allowed God to give them revelation from the English to the Greek back to the Maasai

The final two testify of a “children’s revival phenomena” in Uganda.

One third of Uganda’s churches are made up of children.

As I said unfrivolous and unpretentious.

Go ahead and click on the photos!

Peak Performance

Ephesians 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

Eph 2:21 In whom all the building, rightly joined together, comes to be a holy house of God in the Lord; (Bible In Basic English)

Ephesians 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Eph 4:16 Through whom all the body, being rightly formed and united together, by the full working of every part, is increased to the building up of itself in love. (Bible In Basic English)

Fitly framed together” relates to the building up of any local church body through the use of people’s spiritual gifts, ministries, and callings.

Paul marvelously describes the function of the New Testament church in one fell swoop.

A local church increases, and grows, as each member within that local body supplies his or her part to the growth in accordance to the gifts and ministries, which Jesus has given to each of them. This is what Paul means in verse sixteen when he employs the term “every joint supplieth.”

Many of our churches do not adhere to Paul’s model.

Too many churches have too few ministers. There is too much regulation by leaders who prohibit the exercise of spiritual gifts and their ministries.

Likewise, there are too many complacent and passive members who do not grow in their spiritual gifts and ministries, and consequently do not carry their specific burden” of testifying to Jesus.

The result is always the same. Only part of the Lord’s fullness is manifest, only part of His glory is demonstrated, and much of the revival that should have taken place, does not come .

Paul continues; “According to the effectual working in the measure of every part” He is saying, “EVERY” member has the responsibility to work within their church at his or her “PEAK LEVEL OF SPIRIT LED PERFORMANCE”.

This requires obedience to God, and dedication to the local body. The key is not to run away to another church when things are not quite right. For church hoppers, personal growth becomes an elusive thing.

I believe that the church must be more of a school, college, and graduate school than anything else.

Shalom!

The Church Must Cross the Bridge on the River Kwai

When I was a three year old kid in Cuba, a famous war movie, “Bridge on the River Kwai,” came out. I can still whistle its theme song which has become an enduring classic.

God is the God of the breakthrough, and there is a Bridge on the River Kwai which every Christian must march across to get to it.

The passage is one faith and exact obedience to the voice of the Spirit.

It only comes as a spiritual march.

Ro 4:12  And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also “(stoicheoo)”in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

Ga 5:25  If we live in the Spirit, let us “(stoicheoo)”in the Spirit.

Ga 6:16  And as many as “(stoicheoo)”according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

Php 3:16  Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us “(stoicheoo)”by the same rule (canon), let us mind ( focus) the same thing.

“(Stoicheoo)”, is to proceed in a row as the march of a soldier, to go in order, and walk orderly. It is to walk in the steps of a soldier. To be in line with something. To conform to a standard or a set of canons. To function or advance in military rank.

The fighting power of the hoplite phalanx depended on the individual soldier “being [firmly] in line “(Stoichoos)” (cf. Xenophon Cyr. vi.3.34; Lycurgus Leocrates 77)

Ga 5:25  If we live in the Spirit, let us “(stoicheoo)”in the Spirit.

Christians who say to live in the Spirit, must walk in the military ranks of the voice of the Spirit.

Walking by that voice is a step by step obedience to God’s will.

Ro 4:12  And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also “(stoicheoo)”in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

The  true faith models itself around the ordered military steps of Abraham’s faith as he obeyed the Lord. So the walk of faith is a military walk!

What fashioned Abraham’s faith? He left his parents, comfort and country, to obey God and travel into what is Israel. He lived in tents and would have killed the one son through whom all was promised.

God does not always call us to what Abraham did, but does to his same attitude of heart.

God directed my family to forsake homes and property three times around. Forsaking is not in what one does but in the willingness of heart. One can give, but do it grudgingly.  That is not forsaking.

Are we willing to forsake all for the sake of God?  Can we walk in Abraham’s military steps of faith?

If we would be used in revival it comes in a military walk.

The Spirit’s breakthrough evolves in a continual stepping out to the deep, out of the mental box, and be a fool for Christ, if need be.

Revival work is done by those who have forsaken all earthly reputation for glory and the false security of being politically correct.

Spiritual warfare in westernized nations fails not in physical lack, but in the passivity and complacently which the abundance of these things creates.

The devils’ bombardment through entertainment, electronic gadgetry, and idols of comfort, are diametrically opposed to the military walk of faith. It has produced a dumbed down society.

In many ways the church of Africa suffers from less spiritual warfare than that of western nations.

We feel sorry for Africa’s condition, while African Christians feel pity for us.

With disbelief they look at what the American church has allowed the enemy to encroach upon their nation.

2 Chronicles 7:14  If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

It’s not too late for Western Christians to arise. Resource wise, the American church has more than enough to extraordinarily impact the globe.

The walk of breakthrough is one of a soldier, thus Paul penned these words.

In 2014, let the Western church arise as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Let the church cross The Bridge on the River Kwai.!

2Ti 2:3  You therefore must endure hardship, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

2Ti 2:4  No soldier on duty entangles himself in the affairs of life, that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.

Spiritual Thoughts From New York

Don’t develop a tunnel vision with what God is doing in your church that you miss the bigger vision of what God is doing outside of her. The reality of Christ requires a balance and participation in both.

The truth of the matter at least according to Jose. Jesus is doing more with Christians outside the church walls than within. The Holy Spirit is moving more actively outside the church walls, than within. God’s favor, which comes through people, is greater outside the church walls, than within. The fullness of Christ’s reality for the Christian will never be actualized only in fellowship with other Christians.

We met a man who told us that his friend had died. Mary innocently told him that one day he would see him in heaven. His defensive answer was that he did not believe in all that stuff that he believed in scientific Darwinism. That was the end of the conversation for I have no grace to convince or chase him down. Neither did Jesus. As we bid him good bye I could tell that he was shaken up by the mention of heaven. I suspect as with all others who profess atheism that he had been burned by religion somewhere. My sadness for him lingered seeing the pain that he is in and the doors that he has shut.

“The best way that God will manifest Himself to you is when you approach your search with an earnest heart and a measure of humility. Many times when we approach the existence of God simply with an attitude of mental or argumentative debate, God won’t show up. Remember, I was like all agnostic and atheists at one time of my life, and when I became sincere in my search for Him, I had an encounter which drastically changed my life.
What encounter could I have had that radicalized my life for 37 years, took me out drugs without rehab or help, purified my heart from pornography addiction, changed my source of employment forever and all my beliefs about deity.
It is all too simplistic to say that I have been conned or psychopathically deluded all these years.”
My response to someone to day on my blog entry.

What is evangelism? There is a world of people stuck in pain, rejection and darkness awaiting for you to come and notice them, pay attention to and father them, and promote them in the love of Jesus. The harvest is far greater than what can be seen. There are millions upon millions like these awaiting for you.

The goal of freedom in Christ is to allow the Holy Spirit to become the undisputed and unhindered leader of your life. Nothing is as vital as this if we are to see life changing things impact people’s lives. Towards the end of the service at Silver Springs Vineyard Church of Nyack I suddenly got a vision of a powerfully moving river teeming with the waters of life. Since the river was flowing downstream by the force of gravity, nothing could stop it. God told me, this is the river of my Spirit that I wish to release today. Because gravity pulled it forwards, I had to do nothing but stretch out my hand and let it flow out of me. The first person we prayed for was a little lady in her 70’s. She was so massively touched that she leaned against the wall, out in the presence of God. I believe that for nearly two hours the river flowed to many and yet we did nothing but to stretch out our hands. Jesus is beautiful.

I am talking to one of my missionary friends in India who is using prophetic evangelism quite successfully. In my life, a good portion of the relationships that today I have come to enjoy came out of prophetic evangelism. Everybody wants a word from Almighty God, I don’t care who they are, unless they have absolutely hardened themselves to Him. It is terrible for anyone to say that spiritual gifts are not for today. They need to seek the face of God and repent. I don’t know how many of my present relationships would have been short circuited if I had believed that nonsense.

The difference between the one who calls himself a Christian and has a love for Christ but never attains to Christ’s fullness versus a true disciple of Christ who does, is hardness of heart.

Mt 1:18 Now the birth (genessis) of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the (out of the) Holy Ghost.
Our genesis comes out of the Holy Spirit. No connection to our natural birth.

EW Kenyon, one of my favorite Bible teachers along with Austin Sparks, says this about faith. There is a level of faith which allows me to enter in and begin to obtain what you have asked from God. The next level of faith allows me to become fully established into what I have obtained which is the definition of having my dreams come true. I must confess that I have learned to operate in the first but have never allowed myself to move into the faith which establishes and manifests my dreams. For the latter to work, I must develop the habit of walking on waters and risking it all. It cannot be the exception, it must become the habit. I am ready for my dreams to become true, what about you?

2 Cor 3:14 But their minds were blinded: Blinded is the Greek word, porosis, defined as callous. Our thoughts can become calloused. The most effective way to callousness is disobeying the voice of God speaking through the Holy Spirit. Be careful this does not happen to you.

If it’s the voice of the Lord, throw yourself into the waters of RISK, also spelled FAITH, big time. This is the only way achieve all that God has in His mind. It’s a question of how much you want to achieve, according to your mind, or Gods?

I don’t want to do anything that does not work. If God shows me that it’s not working, I want to chuck it immediately. If God says that it is, but it’s hitting a snag, I want to tweak it day by day, according to Him, to make it cutting edge. If it’s fully working, I want to leave it alone and flow with it. There is not a second to waste.
